Gulfport has always been a straight town and needs to stay that way
Thus sayeth, Gulfport City Councilman Billy Hewes. Hewes introduced a resolution to the city council condemning the Supreme Court ruling in the Texas Sodomy case. Hewes says the ruling corrupts the moral fiber of this nation and that the ruling is the worst thing to happen to this country since "they" took prayer out of the schools. The resolution passed 5-1. There sure are a lot of old ugly fat white guys who are not very secure in their sexuality. They are the same kind of knuckleheads who support our troops only by wrapping themselves in the flag while destroying the constitution and rejoice in the deaths of innocent civilians so a rich republican can secure oil fields.

1. Straight? Maybe. WIDE OPEN in my day.
My ANG wing did our annual 2-week summer camp in Gulfport in the 60s and 70s.
Hoo baby! It was wild. Gambling casinos (illegal, but open to all), hookers, strippers, sex shows...you name it.
And that's ALL I'm saying on the grounds that it may tend to...you know.
;-)

4. To paraphrase Shakespeare...
"Methinks he doth protest too much"

I know Councilman Billy's type. They were the boys who wouldn't look you in the eyes on the morning after a sleepover.

Now that he's fat and old, no one would look at him twice anyway...

5. Councilman Billy
should have attended the same Easter Sunday brunch I went to. I was in Houston visiting my daughter and her boyfriend, and we went to the brunch which was held at an absolutely gorgeous house in the Montrose area. The hosts were a gay couple who are my daughter's friends.

We had a wonderful time. Everybody there was warm, friendly, some were wickedly funny. In addition to gay and Lesbian couples, there were straight couples, singles of any and all genders, there was plenty of good food, great music, and a wonderful bar set up.

We had a fantastic time, there was a lot of warmth, laughter, and an atmosphere of just total acceptance of all of us there. To me, that's the way things should be. Councilman Billy needs to get over himself.

6. I'm next door to yall and they're doing the same thing.
My local paper here in Tuscaloosa is filled with letters complaining how those homos on TV are responsible for destroying this great nations' morals.

Oh yeah, and those sinners who "live together" (meaning heteros). In fact when they recently profiled an unmarried hetero couple's home on the cover of the Real Estate guide in Sunday paper...woo boy!! The letters were something like...I can't believe you couldn't find a married couple to profile! I guess they want all of us heathens to crawl into a hole and die. BTW, do they teach that in church?

9. Yeah, when I read that I realized why they're so mean to us.
Me and my spouse are from the north originally and we've had a very hateful reception here...usually just the Yankee stuff. But we weren't married when we first came down....soooooo now I realize how awful they seem to believe we are because we didn't have that little piece of paper.

Not that they came over and treated us better once we were married.
