I could seriously do without the anti-Semitic overtones.

2. sorry, martin, that was not the intent - actually, |
|
my sister works for a jewish community action center - she herself is not jewish. guess we were just looking at the humor aspect of it - we're pretty irreverent but certainly not antisemitic. but anyway, no offense intended.

Seriously. It's just that I don't trust the Weekly Standard to not have such things in mind -- given the influence that Pat Buchanan has with it.

Remember, this is a far-right rag that is influenced by Pat Buchanan.

Are you focusing on the "Dining Plans"? Real cruises often include that very phrase.

The "neocons" are a broad and very loosely defined group, but they are heavily Jewish. Bill Kristol, who edits the Weekly Standard, is Jewish, as are many of the contributors to the magazine. This is a parody piece, and the overtly Jewish references are a matter of Jewish Republicans poking fun at themselves.
Support for Israel is one of the touchstones of this set of people. It is also one of the issues -- along with a strong line against the Soviet Union in the closing years of the Cold War -- that induced a significant number of former Democrats to switch parties. These folks are foreign policy hawks, and thus allies of convenience with the more traditional Republicans, but are often quite moderate on social issues. There are often considerable tensions within the right arising from this fact.
FWIW, Pat Buchanan is not popular with the Weekly Standard crowd. Buchanan is quasi-isolationist, increasingly nativist, and critical of Israel's "amen corner" on the right. He is neither a Weekly Standard nor a National Review conservative, as both magazines are internationalist in outlook.
