Do you suppose he wants to get the CIA types under oath and see whether or not they implicate the Administration? If so, why take this tack instead of going straight for the Bush jugular? Don't know, I'm just thinking out loud here.

CIA testifies that they delivered them to Cheney. Shows documentation. Hmm......this could get very interesting.

intelligence. It's not as if the CIA has a spotless reputation in shit like this (understatement.) . It could be that the whistle blowers in the Agency are rogue guys who don't want to take a dive. And hey, if Carl Levin were to go after Bush, it would be labelled as "partisan politics," wrongly, of course, but, you know how a buzz line like that gets picked up by the "liberal" media.

;-) Carl Levin is pretty reliable. He's slow and dogged. He doesn't go beyond what he can prove at any given point. Things are bubbling. Bubbling proceeds boiling & I do believe this time it will come to a boil. It's not there today, but Carl isn't going to let the heat be turned off either. For now, he doesn't want to give anyone an excuse to turn off the heat by claiming the other side is going too far.

I have noticed Levin blatantly offering the "CIA did it" pass to Bushie on several occasions. Does he think this will cause the misadministration to be more forthcoming, if they have such an easy out? Does he think it makes him look more fair minded and open to bipartisanship? (maybe) Anyway, it is very frustrating and makes me wonder what's going on in back rooms.

Think Colombo. He is plodding. He is persistant. He is going to cross every t and dot every i and leave that fricking criminal Bush no plaec to run. He has to question the CIA and verify that they are not at fault. By applying pressure to them he may also be able to kick out more info on Shrubco.

13. I couldn't be more delighted. |

Levin is like a dog with his jaw locked on a victim and he isn't letting go.
He musta mentioned the CIA, bowels of the CIA and similar phrases a million times. The way I see it he just let the CIA know he ain't backing down and they will provide answers. The answers they provide are up to them but, for all those so convinced Levin is a sell-out, I have to ask; do you honestly think the CIA will quietly take the rap for Bush???
I don't. I see an investigation into the "bowels of the CIA" as a wonderful thing that could uncover many piles of Bush-poop.
Julie
P.S. I'll be seeing Sen. Levin on Friday, anyone have questions you'd like me to ask?

Senator Levin,
What kind of support do you have from your fellow Democrats, or any Republicans, concerning the investigation? While Senator Warner (R-VA) says he won't stand in your way, do you feel there is a possibilty he, or another Republican, could eventually join you in calling for public hearings?

What makes him think he can get real answers out of the CIA when the Church Committe on Assassinations, the Iran Contra Hearings, and Watergate all couldn't?
Still, I'm glad somebody's got some balls.

20. Absolutely! It was a brilliant move. |
|
It shows that he's still giving the administration the benefit of the doubt. This will only amplify the outrage when it's seen to be a lie promulgated by an evil administration willing to destroy the lives of its institutional patriots.
Levin is a truly honorable and decent man and no fool.
Even my Republican Step-Mother from Michigan respects him without question.
The way to destroy this administration is not to destroy the administration, it's to get those who are in the process of being personally destroyed to rebel against them.
HERE'S THE IMPORTANT PART: The administration can dodge and shuffle about national security and plausible deniability, but they can't stall the rooting out of the incompetents or duplicitous. They must, in fact, feign outrage or be seen as liars or enablers of dangerous fools. Thus, the heat will be on the spooks, and they'll come forward to tell that they told Cheney. Tick tick tick.
This is how Fouche brought down Robespierre: convince and organize those others in peril that it is their survival at stake; that'll get the tumbrel rolling...

17. When did the CIA advise the WH that Iraq war would be a bad idea? |
|
At the time, DUers even commented on how strange it was that the CIA made any public comments. Not their normal mode of operation.
Now, it seems clear it was meant to cover their butts should Bush try to pull a fast one as he did woth the FBI post 9/11.
Is there an agency left in the government Bush hasn't alienated?

circle the wagons for Smirk.
I don't have cable (on purpose) but was visiting a friend this afternoon and CNN was on while I was waiting to leave.
I could not fucking believe my ears. Could not fucking believe it.
If everyone on this board for nine months has known this Niger thing was a fabrication and a lie, how come poor Carl, in the maw of the governmental beast, can't figure it out.....
Or, perchance, did he vote for the invasion ( I don't remember if he did or not), and now is faced with circling the wagons and giving old Smirk a big bear hug and firing a couple of CIA types to blame them for Cheney's treasonous acts.
Absolutely disgusting from every perspective you can imagine.

"Bowels of the CIA" is Condi's phrase. Right after she said that, the CIA types started speaking up in their own defense. I think Levin's trying to call them out.
