1. Prevents the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.

2. Blocks spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.

3. Restricts the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.

Naturally, you will want to get AdAware or SpyBot and remove the pesky buggers that you already have on your hard drive, if you haven't already.

While you're at the javacool site, check out SpywareGuard, too.

I'm sure most of you are sophisticated enuf to know, but just in case you're a newbie...

Be very careful of free spyware/adware programs. The least evil will find badware, but make you upgrade to a paid version to remove it. The most evil will install spyware on your computer.

SpyBot and Adaware are the best and best known. SpywareBlaster and SpywareGuard (which do different things) are also the best in their area and are a must have. They claim not to interfere with any other spy or anti-virus software.

If you ever see and want to use free spyware programs you are not familiar with, PLEASE go to your favorite security forums first and see if anyone uses them and/or knows anything about them.
