Insane roommates: Mine was a guy I shared an apartment with
in Cleveland for a very short period in 1968. He bathed once a week (every Saturday afternoon). After he finished his bath he would wash his soiled clothes in the same water, then his dirty pots, pans, and dishes, and finally his dog.

The dog's coat was kinda tie-died from the colors that ran and he would constantly find and eat bits of food in his fur.

7. My college roomate
freshman year gave me a box of tongue depressors to use to hold down his tongue if he had an anxiety induced seizure. He also wore bow ties every day.

A few weeks later, he told me he had dreamed about deformed male genitalia.

I started to lock my bedroom door at night after that...

8. Yuk, did you move or did he?
My story at least involves a clean person. During my student days long ago I shared an apartment with a decidedly paranoid person. For weeks he kept asking me, "I keep getting headaches. Do you know anything about it?"
I would alway say no and he would always snort as if he knew I was lying. I never knew what to make of it.
Finally he came right out and said I had hooked up a pipe to his room from mine and was sending some kind of gas into it.
Freaked me out. He didn't seem as if he were going to get violent but it was still disturbing. Finally after several accusations I tried confronting him with logic. We were in a basement apartment and his window was at ground level facing the driveway. The owner of the building was a contractor who often left his truck idling with exhaust pipe facing the window, which was often open.
I tried the argument of Occam's Razor. "What is more likely," I asked, "that I have bored through your wall so skillfully you can't even see the hole, then hooked up a pipe and rigged it up to some complex smoking-out mechanism I have so well hidden it can't be seen just so I can take hours out of my life trying to give you a headache? OR, maybe, just maybe, might the exhaust from the truck be getting into your room?"
"No," he said, "you're doing it."
I was outta there.

11. I was gonna tell my story
But that one made me feel sheepish.
Don't tell me - he moved down to Texas, became an exterminator and is now a Congressman?

12. Well, you win
All roommates I might have, from now on, no matter how bizarre they might be, I shall remember yours and think to myself, "Well, it could be worse."

19. A girl who didn't talk
EVER -- unless I initiated the conversation. I got tired of her coldness, and the last week we lived together, I didn't try to start a conversation -- just an experiment, right?

Well, that whole week we DIDN'T SAY A WORD. Weird.
