DU Tennis Players - need some help with racket selection |
|
My previous racket, some POS Wilson $30, just had a freak accident and the frame broke. Fortunately, I was able to borrow a friend's Head Titanium S-5 for practice today and a meet tomorrow. I fell in love with the racket. It was much lighter than my old racket, and it fit my more moderate swing better than the heavy Wilson.
I went out shopping a few hours ago, and I found a Titanium S-6 (my swing is a bit longer than my friend's) for $100 (excellent price, btw) pre-strung (I'll get looser strings soon, nonetheless). I also found a Wilson Hyper Hammer, gently used and with a good set of strings, for $100. I forgot to check out the swing index on it, but it seemed about right for my swing. All of my friends rave about the Hyper Hammer, and my experiences with it have been pretty good (though much more limited than with the Head).
Do any of you guys have experience with these rackets, and could give me some advice about buying it? I think at this point, I'll buy the Hyper Hammer, and if it's

rackets are great for beginner-intermediate players, but not so hot for advanced players. they've got huge sweet spots, but they make controlling spin a little tricky.
i'd suggest going to a pro-shop that allows play-testing. that's the only really good way to make a choice.

2. I'd put myself in the intermediate category |
|
I've been playing tennis about a year and a half now, and I'm at the point where I'm fairly competitive. I'm reading a few online reviews of the Head racket, pretty much all of which say the whole face is a giant sweet spot, but still maintains a very good level of spin control (I sound like Bill O'Reilly now, eh? ;)).

3. The place where I would get the used Hammer has a great return policy |
|
I could use it for one day, and if I don't like it, return it for 100% refund.

And make sure to play that day!

5. I have practice every day after school :) |
|
Assuming it's not raining, I will be able to get in a lot of quality time. Thanks for the advice :)
