Do You Feel Sorry For People Who Either Don't Have A Sense Of Humor...
Or aren't funny, in general.

To me, if someone lacks a sense of humor or the ability to make people laugh then they better be either a super genius or great in bed because I can't imagine how horrible life must be without humor in it.

Any other funny DUers agree with me?

or, conversely...

Any unfunny DUers disagree with me?

1. I agree.
A sense of humor in a person is the biggest thing that attracts me to people. If you don't have a sense of humor, I don't want nothing to do with you.

2. you remind me of one of my favorite family guy moments
Edited on Fri Apr-16-04 11:02 AM by cheezus
stewie is baby jesus, and being crazy and a guy in the audience says something like -

guy: I can't believe this blasphemy. I've got to do something!
friend: There isn't anything you can do
guy: hmmm.... maybe I should develop a sense of humor

man, did I laugh at that one.

When I meet people, about 90-95% of people like me, but the other 5 or 10 percent don't get my jokes and just think i'm weird or a jerk.

12. Boy...cheezus...I know what you mean
I've got a satiric personality and more times then one I've gotten
myself in the embarrassing position, in the sense that, I could deeply explain what I just said (and make the listener feel foolish)
or just say nothing and let them "not get it"....Yeck!!!

Example: I was in a grocery store once, buying some cereal...
When I took the box up to the cashier, the cereal wouldn't scan
and the clerk asked me if I knew how much the box of cereal cost.
Well, (naturally) I said "I think it's 10 cents"
Man O Man, she gets all pissed and everything and I'm stuck there
wanting to say: "Listen, you non-humorous idiot, it's a joke...I KNOW it's not 10 cents!"

I'm sure you understand.

4. I agree. Put my mother in that group.
I don't know what it is.

She cannot tell a joke to save her life; she's caught up in her own generational mindset, and has no conception of what is considered humorous.

reprehensor and I entertain each other constantly with goofy voices, jokes, private little silly things we've come to mutually laugh at. We quit trying to share the jokes with her because she's oblivious.

When we go to visit her, it's like she's from another planet. We tell her something funny and she just sits there. She has no idea why we're laughing or what's funny.

She insists on telling the same 3 stupid jokes she heard my dad tell back in the 50s and she either messes them up, or everyone's heard them a bazillion times.

It sounds harsh, but my mom is whacked in more ways than one.

6. Agree
A sense of humor is a sign of a stable personality. People who can find humor in life are much better equipped to deal with life.

My sense of humor has gotten me in trouble more than a few times....but I absolutely refuse to change......

I truly appreciate the DUers who exhibit such irreverent senses of humor.......hell, I truly appreciate DU in general.

7. I have met people without a sense of humor,
real grumpy people that never smile or laugh, that totally crack me up. Just the way they talk and the way they see things can really be funny. I often wonder if it is just the way they deal with things and helps them let off steam. Laughing and seeing the bright side of things just isn't their style.

However, when you have someone that thinks they are funny, but really aren't, that can be a drag. Nothing like trying to laugh along with someone when you just want to roll your eyes or leave the room. That can be a difficult situation.

8. Sometimes it is fun to act humorless
Especially when a sibling brings home a significant other. When that happens acting quiet and solemn can un-nerve them and it is really fun to watch them squirm.

9. Most times in my life, if I
did not have a sense of humor I would not have made it to this old age. All three of my children have inherited it and do we have some great old times. Mine can be so irreverant at times I suppose I should be ashamed of myself, but no so. Best of all we can laugh at ourselves hilariously.

10. That's one of the values I try to instill in my kids
Two of the most important things in life are:
1. Be a good person
2. Make people laugh

I find that a big percentage of people who totally lack a sense of humor aren't all that bright.

11. I thought I was in trouble there for a minute
I have a sense of humor, I do. Honestly.
I don't tell jokes well. They are seldom recognized as such.

But, hey, what's it matter? I'm great in bed so I don't have to have a sense of humor!

14. My daughter (8) was recently telling me that she just couldn't
imagine having a Dad who wasn't funny. Definitely one of my proudest moments. Silliness is my fuel.

15. I don't have a great sense of humor
I don't think I'm stupid, but I'm certainly not a good joke-teller. When sprayed with a hose, I usually smile or laugh rather than yell. Does that mean I have a better sense of humor than I might think? I dunno -- IMO I'm entirely too serious and wish I were more like the jokearoundy people I tend to be attracted to.

16. Man F--- you
There is nothing about life exciting or funny. LIFE IS HELL! Perhaps I was addicted to the Dark Side, some where inside my child hood I witnessed my heart die. Yeah I agree with you, life is to short to stay mad all the time, you just have to enjoy life while your here. A positive outlook on life usually means you'll enjoy life more then someone who has a negative outlook on life. Great post, you deserve a treat.
