Poll question: Speaking of homosexuality...
If you said to somebody you were homosexual and they didn't believe you, would you try to convince them?

(If so, how? Apart from giving them a firsthand demonstration of course... )

1. No, I wouldn't try to convince them. I told them. I don't need to do...
anything else.

2. This is a weird thread, HT....
what if I said to someone I'm heterosexual & they didn't believe me - how would I react & how would I convince them? Toooo weird.

4. There's a difference - and a reason for my seemingly weird thread
People automatically ASSUME everybody is heterosexual. They will think somebody is homosexual ONLY if the person speaks in a lisp, wears flannel, or looks/does other things perceived to be homosexual.

Not all homosexuals exhibit stereotypical patterns.

Some who know you for a while but then tell you the revelation might leave them confused, to say the least. How could such a decent person be *that way*? I myself shocked a few people, though I was told to keep away from one of his relatives because (my health would be put in jeopardy) if he found out. (man, you heteros are truly lucky. Nobody would be vicious toward you because you like the opposite sex sexually...)

Prejudice tends to disappear as people get to know each other. Usually, some people would still be vile but that's their problem - that's why I never hinted at or deliberately came out to my friend's brother. I rather like living, and no amount of diplomacy would change matters. It's a pity as he's a cool guy. (I won't say what religion he is, but let's just say that all mainstream religions don't like homosexuals... why I'm not totally militant against religions in return has got to be the greatest mystery of all time...)

5. Flannel for the ladies, right??
Gosh, those retards should move to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The Northwoods would appear to be swarming with lesbians.

Stereotypes are stupid, duh??:7

6. Yeah, I understand,
although frankly, as I mentioned in another thread, I'm so bad at guessing orientation I've given up - why bother, I'll get it wrong, and who cares anyway. But the problem still is, ummmm, how do you convince someone? And why would you want to?

8. Hmmm!
They will think somebody is homosexual ONLY if the person speaks in a lisp, wears flannel, or looks/does other things perceived to be homosexual.

I guess I better tell my sister that she is a dyke because she wears her MALE husbands flannel shirts in Winter.

This whole thread and your second post really holds no merit.

3. Not gay, but why would they want to know?
The context I have seen this issue amongst friends is when the self proclaimed gay person has had little or no sexual experience with anyone, same sex or not. This context came up in high school and college, suggesting that some people would choose to identify as homosexual because they either wanted to be "different" or were "different" and wanted a group identity. I guess that a person in this situation would state that they always, or at least for a while, found members of the same sex attarctive and were not attracted to members of the opposite sex.
If you are talking about a member of the opposite sex who might want to date you, I don't know. This person probably feels that you are just rejecting her when you say "Sorry, I don't date women. I am gay." She is thinking "Yeah right, you are telling me the real reason that you don't like me." You might want to take her to a date at a gay bar and dance with some guys or something.
If you are talking about a guy that you want to date, why would any straight man tell a gay guy that they were gay too and wanted to go on a date, if they weren't gay?

7. Hypno...
...for some reason, I really do find the question asked truly insulting, and because of that I refuse to vote in your poll.

Why does it really matter? If I come out to someone and they don't believe me, then that is a denial problem they have.
