Did He? Or, Didn't He?
Edited on Tue Apr-20-04 08:33 PM by The Lone Liberal
The talk down in the delta is that sometime during 1931, down around Rosedale, Mississippi, Robert Johnson stood in the middle of a crossroads at night and sold his soul to the devil in exchange for becoming the greatest blues man of all times.

Would you sell your soul and if so what would the price be?

4. Its in line with a very old European tradition that....
The devil resides at crossroads.

In ages past there was a tradition of placing a cross at crossroads. I believe it was to indicate the danger of choosing between right and wrong; between God and the devil.

5. story on NPR recently indicate Rbt. Johnson was not considered that hot..
...by his contemporaries.
...he borrowed a lot from them.
...he allowed myths to spring up.

even though the Coen Brothers used the 'devil at the crossroads' story nicely in "Oh, Brother, Where Art Though," hmmm?

same thing, essentially, is told about the Rolling Stones.
that's where "Sympathy for the Devil" came from.
presumably.
