In The Apple Orchard Before Blossom - A Rare Sight to See
A dog stroll down the street and I'm in a few hundred acres of orchards with views almost to Boston (48 miles).

Most of my neighbors visit the orchard at least once during the up-coming blossom time but I love it now. Charlie and I walk, ski or bike there at least once a week year round and there is no time quite as interesting as the weeks just before the bloom. This is when the bark takes on an almost Copper coloration that is really spectacular to see. These pics don't do it justice but I thought I'd share anyway. The downside of pre-blossom is, as I was taking these I heard the sprayer approaching in the distance and we had to hustle home before getting nuked.

Detail of the copper color.

1. It is beautiful. Rogue Valley in Oregon grows pears, apples and peaches.
Do you have asparagus growing wild under the trees? Very pretty.

2. No asparagus
Lots of dandelions and clover.

Clover honey is prized and they bring the bees back twice if they have to. Usually they manage to get both at once before the dandelions pop up.

3. I know what you mean by copper color
it almost looks like fall. This is my first year in the wood where I am really watching early spring. I expected greens but instead see red and copper colored buds. I suspect this will last but a week so I will cherish it!
