One show that should've gotten a second chance: "Clerks"- the cartoon.
It was a PRETTY funny cartoon show modeled after the cult movie hit series "Clerks" created by Kevin Smith in the late 1990's. The cartoon show premiered in 2000 and lasted only six episodes. But I think the show should've gotten more credit than it got, and been given another chance. It really was a buried diamond in the primetime TV wasteland.

There were many funny, off-the-wall parts of the show, like the time Leonardo Leonardo (the richest guy in Leonardo, New Jersey) ate a rotten burrito (the storyline of how it got rotten is TOO funny), and got sick, and there was a monkey in the pet shop on the corner that had a monkey, and Randall (one of the clerks) and his overactive imagination was saying that the monkey would start a Mutaba virus plague, like in the movie "Outbreak". Well, Leonardo got sick, and Randall thought it was the monkey. So he called the CIA and the CDC, and a LOT of funny shit happened afterwards. Randall was VERY stupid in a hilarious way.

The last episode was the BEST, and probably the staff knew they were getting cancelled, so they wrote the most off-the-wall show with parts like the writers of the show in animated form (they were making fun of themselves), acting all like drunk idiots in their brainstorming session, with one of them reading a book entitled "How to Write Cartoons - By Seth McFarlane". I think I read that some of the "Clerks" writers later worked on the Family Guy staff, and I think that it might've been a way to get on McFarlane's good side, so they could get another job.

Anyone remember this show?? It's on Comedy Central on Sunday late-nights.

2. Yeah, it was pretty good
I have the DVDs. It reminded me a lot of The Critic.

3. You should pick up the DVD...
I bought it at Best Buy for like 23 dollars. It has all the episodes, includint the scrapped pilot, feature commentary with Smith, O'Halloran, Anderson, amd Mosier, as well as a bunch of featurettes.

FYI: The next View Askew film is supposed to be an animated Clerks movie (rated R, of course) called Clerks: Sell Out.

5. It was originally on ABC in 2000...
it had its debut after the Super Bowl. Now Comedy Central has picked it up and is airing it late at night.

7. Are you kidding?
The show was far too ascerbic and engaging to run on network TV. The network reps ran with it because they got a kick out of comments like Moes, or the 37 reference even though they had no idea what they meant. They loved the slacker idea and Jay and Silent Bob until they found out they were drug dealers.

TV wants you to obey. Not start thinking for yourself.
