Randomkoolzip-Why didn't you get met to listen to Genesis in my Yes phase? |
|
I love these bastards!
Man, the Lamb Lies Down on Broadway is a fucking AWESOME album!
I had always heard them but never gave the serious CStheT study they deserve. You have let me down, old friend. For shame, for shame.

is my absolute FAVORITE Genesis work ...
Broadway Melody of 1974
Echoes of the Broadway Everglades
With her mythical madonnas, still walkin in their shades ...
Lenny Bruce, declares a truce, and plays his other hand ...
Marshall McCluhan, casual viewin, head buried in the sand ...
Sirens on the rooftops, wailin ... but there's no ship sailin ...
Groucho, with his movies trailin, stands alone with his punchline failin ....
The Ku Klux Klan serve hot soul food ...
And the Band plays: In The Mood ..
The cheerleader waves her cyanide wand: there's the smell of peach blossom ... and bitter almond ....
Caryl Chessman sniffs the air, and leads the parade ... He knows: in a scent .. you can bottle all you made ...
There's Howard Hughes in blue suede shoes, smiling at the Majorettes, smoking Winston cigarettes ...
And as the song and dance begins: the children play at home ....
With needles ...
Needles and Pins ....

6. ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!?! |
|
Seriously man.....
MANY was the time I made mix tapes for you with shit from "Foxtrot" and "Selling England by the Pound." MAny was the time you'd get stoned over at my house and I'd put on some early Genesis. I remember one time, in fact, when we were hanging out in MAndrew's GTI, smoking a bowl, and I forced you guys to listen to "Foxtrot," and you and Drew weren't all that impressed, took it out, and put in some Dead bootleg instead.
The winter/spring of 92, the best time of my life, my acid spring, Genesis was THEE soundtrack to that era for me. I rmemeber constantly trying to expose you to them. I was listening to "Tresspass" and "Lamb" ALMOST EVERYDAY, and getting high.
Sheesh: I think I did some work in that direction, sir.

10. No, seriously, I wasn't ready to understand how great they were |
|
I was too "focused" When you tried to sway me. I was too "focused" too appreciate it. Now that my musical palette has developed I can't NOT love them. The Lamb is brilliant - FUCKING BRILLIANT. I picked up Foxtrot as well and (please don't hit me) its AWESOME.
I'm sorry Brother :(

I was just listening to the second set from 10/18/74 this morning: Seastones Jam(w/Ned Lagin)>Jam>Dark Star>Morning Dew (that was the whole set). Fuckin' beautiful.
My wife still makes fun of me foor liking the Dead and other "old fogey" music. And I make fun of her for her Cocteau Twins bootlegs.
