"The Magnificent Seven" composer falls silent
sorry if this has been posted a dozen times

1922-2004

Elmer Bernstein, the amazingly prolific composer who wrote the
memorable theme for The Magnificent Seven among other scores,
died Wednesday in his sleep at home in Ojai, California, he was 82.

from http://www.elmerbernstein.com/bio/biography.html

Elmer Bernstein is a name in music synonymous with creativity,
versatility and longevity. The year 2001 marked his 50th
anniversary as a feature film composer who has written the
music for over 200 major film and television scores, the only
composer working today to have achieved such longevity. He has
practiced his craft for the past half century, gracing virtually all
creative media with his work.

Recognized with countless awards for his work in film, television, stage and audio
recording, Bernstein is a fourteen-time Academy Award nominee, winning the Award in
1967 for his score for Thoroughly Modern Millie. Other nominated scores include
The Man with the Golden Arm, The Magnificent Seven, Summer and Smoke, To Kill a
Mockingbird, The Return of the Seven, Hawaii, True Grit, Trading Places, The Age of
Innocence and Far From Heaven. His Oscar-nominated songs include "Walk on the
Wild Side," "My Wishing Doll" from Hawaii and "Wherever Love Takes Me" from Gold.

Thanks for the Tunes and the memories Elmer.

4. Wrote the music for many of the Charles Eames short films
Wonderfully inspired minimal 50's compositions rarely listened to.

5. Elmer Bernstein was the "go-to" guy for film scores in the 1960s...
As a kid in 1962, I was lucky enough to see him conduct an orchestra in a program of his film scores.

First Jerry Goldsmith, now Elmer Bernstein...soon all the giants will be gone...:(

Maybe now they'll release the full scores that he did for Heavy Metal and Ghostbusters...

8. This is so sad...I loved his score from "The Grifters"
Elmer Bernstein was one of my favorite film composers. He was working almost towards the end...Oscar nominated last year for his score from "Far From Heaven"...another gem.

Music has lost a giant.

9. Didn't see the movie "Heavy Metal" listed
His music for that movie was great, and it blended in really well with all the hard rock.

If I recall correctly, the soundtrack album pictured Bernstein conducting the orchestra with a "Heavy Metal" T-shirt on. I thought that was so cool.
