Poll question: Best Disco Diva, Ever |
|
For those of us old enough to remember polyester shirts, 24 inch gold chains, platform shoes, lucite heels, really glossy lip gloss, the Farrah cut, and 12" extended singles...

Donna Summer is the only performer who was able to make disco sound decent.

I hated the hell out of disco. I always wanted that T-shirt that said "Disco Sucks." But Donna Summer's songs were the ONLY songs that I could tolerate, even like.

I hate having the term "diva" cheapened, misapplied in this way to any female pop culture figure. I wish people would stop using it for every flash-in-the-pan babe to appear on "Entertainment Tonight". It originally applied to a "prima donna", or the principal woman singer in an opera company. Come to think of it, the term "prima donna" got bastardized too.

I bought the Best of Donna Summer CD last year.
It started as a joke when my husband and a male friend were wearing our sarongs (yes we were half in the bag on the beach) and singing Bad Girls and shaking their booties and doing the bump. I bought the CD to kind of remind them later of their antics but, damn, once I turned that CD on I listened to it all the way through and started it all over again.
And yes, we have blackmail pics.
