"The defecit announced today is among the largest in US history."

Anyone smell tuna fish on this one?

1. Depends how you measure it. |
|
Purely in a dollar amount or as a percentage of GDP. As a dollar amount, it's probably the highest it's ever been. Not sure about the percentage of GDP, though.
You might want to cut NPR a little slack before parroting the 'whore' epithet. We don't have a lot of friends in the media--NPR is still one of the good guys, despite a slip or two.

I get a little worried when DU'ers just go off on NPR at any sign of supposed "whoring".

4. I can see your point, but I have been listening to NPR |
|
since before it was called NPR, and let me tell you, there is a severe shift to the right going on, and it has been going on for a long time. It is almost as bad as the others, but being almost is bad enough.
Having worked in NPR years and years ago, I am sickened by what I hear sometimes.

You're lowering yourself to debating like freepers when you use a word like that. You can article your point a hell of a lot more forcefully when you DON'T sound like Bill O'Reilly.

About 7.5% of GDP.
Why are you busting NPR about this?

As stated it is the largest. How do you measure it? In dollars. So I agree with WannaJumpMyScooter: it's the largest. As for NPR, they're the fucking media. I don't give them any slack. I hold them to a high standard. I'll never trust the media again.
On edit: Mount Everest is among the highest mountains in the world. See the point.

a breath of fresh air. They actually do journalism, as opposed to Fox, Inanity and Limbaugh, which is pure GOP cheerleading bullshit.

10. Don't listen to Cokie, Juan or Mara very much, do tyou? |
|
I'm afraid the best we're gonna do here is agree to disagree. There's RW Ho's in NPR and they get their blast-fax every morning from Unkel Karl.
I'm not willing to ignore the gangrene on Lady NPR's legs just because her titties are still pink and perky.
They're Media, they're Corporate-sponsored (can you really TRUST a segment on GMO's when they tell you it was sponsored "...by ADM, Supermarket to the World..."?) And they know that if they don't at least nudge the line that everyone else toes that the den of Thugs...Uh, I mean the Congress, will shut their funds off.

9. thank you for putting more eloquently than I did |
|
I was so pissed when I posted, I was not able to think.
Yes, NPR has SOME alternative points of view. Not as many as before, but...okay.
And yes, NPR is NEWS organization.
Saying that this defecit is among the largest is an obvious editoral comment that has no place in straight reportage like that. Is it the 2nd largest? 3rd? or the largest?
If it is the largest, say so. If not, qualify it.
that is my point.

11. while this might not be a good example... |
|
... of NPR whoredom, you can listen to All Things Considered or Morning Edition any day and hear numerous good examples.
Journalism? Yes, a little more than say FOX or NBC. But plenty of winger bullshit, including continual voicings of the Heritage Foundation, the American Enterprise Institute and the National Review, replete with their absurd and completely predictable positions and no rebuttal or counterpoint whatsoever.
Being a paying local affiliate pledge since 1985, I dropped out this year. I'm not paying for propaganda, I can get that for free.

12. But, that is exactly tyhe problem... if you ignore the faults |
|
and trust "most of it" pretty soon they will turn into Fox..CBS... whatever... that is how it starts, a slippery slope.
Fox did not get that bad overnight.
