Last Saturday, I finally cracked. Work has been so awful and ridiculously stressful that I finally had to call it quits, even though I don't have any other job prospects at the moment. Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do.
So, any Chicago DUers have any jobs for a progressive liberal former high end food & beverage service professional? :-)

2. Wow. You were quick with that link. |

You must have had it bookmarked or something. Keeping your options open, heh?

4. Heh - I *do* have it bookmarked! |
|
I want to buy forradalom's condo, and I need a good job for that! ;-)
In reality, if I find the right gig, I am outta Texas so fast heads will spin! I like Chicago a lot - I lived in IL long enough to know how to live through winters.

6. Winter really doesn't exist, for inner-city dwellers. |
|
If you don't have to shovel it, or drive in it, the snow's a non-issue.
Sure it get a little cold, but look on the bright side. No mosquitoes.
Besides, it's easier to dress fashionably in cooler climes. Just thinking of you in a black turtle neck sweater and a leather jacket...............;-)

I'd live in the city, I think...take the bus and train in the snow. Screw driving in it! :P
I do look good in black...;-)

As a former bartender, I like to talk to bartenders. A few weeks ago I was at a wedding in Bar Harbor and had a couple of conversations with the two very pleasant women bartenders. They both said they liked working for a caterer much more than at a fixed place of business.
Also, they said the tips were usually a lot better and their hours were more flexible. They do a lot of weddings and everyone's in a good mood, nobody's pissed and angry, no fights (usually).
What about that?

8. If you were that stressed out |
|
it's simply not worth it. You can't put a value on your peace of mind or health. Hopefully you'll be able to take some downtime to regroup and I'm sure something better is just around the corner.
Take care!

caterer. The money is usually better than a restaurant.

I wish you better luck than I've had with that strategy. I made my "that's it! I can't take anymore" exit from my last job a little over 14 months ago, with nary a prospect of re-employment since. Stinkin' f*ckin' bush* economy! I'm sure you'll do fine, though - you seem like you have a better attitude than I do. ;-)

At least Chicago is one the least hard hit big cities, economically. There should be something good for you out there. The Professor

More of the same? Or something different?
Good luck, whichever.

13. Something different, I think |
|
I've been doing restaurants and bars on and off for 19 years now. I feel like I should do something else for a change. Not necessarily a career, just a change from dealing with drunk and hungry rich people. :-)
