What's the deal with him? You'd think anyone who's endorsed by the Klan wouldn't get so much attention but he never seems to go away.
Thoughts?

1. he comes across as a populist |
|
And on a few issues, he's with the left against the right. He's not a "good guy" but he's not totally bad either. He's against "free trade." He was against the war too.

2. a guy on another board I visit |

Is going on how Pat's the best guy ever because he actually got a response from him as opposed to the canned responses he got from his Senators, etc.
I tried pointing out he's a racist, sexist, homophobic piece of crap but this guy insists people just take him out of context and that if I read his book I'd see what a good guy he is.

He seems to have a good sense of humor. If I didn't believe he was a racist, I might even vote for him. But that's a big "if."
You know, he might have been Deep Throat. And if so, that was a great thing to do.
on edit: Come to think of it, I WOULD vote for him. If it came down to him and bush. Anyone (and I mean that) but bush.

And anti-neocon. I admire him for standing true to his conservative beliefs, unlike many opportunist politicians and movie stars. They seem to believe in nothing other than what benefits themselves.
At least Pat cares about something other than himself. He took a beating from the right and emerged unscathed. He's got my respect. He's honorable, and I don't care what people want to call him. I think he's a good person at heart, just misguided on a few issues, or at least it's an honest disagreement.
I'll take an honest man who respectfully disagrees with me over a liar ANY day.

a mixed bag.
He's horribly conservative. But he's not a neo-con. And he's actually scupulously honest, and will attack a Republican as quickly as a Democrat when they violate his principles.
I respect him. I don't agree with him on many things. But I respect him.

He's definately a old school conservatitve and not a neo-con but his racist and sexist statements have made it hard for me to put much stock in him.
He's also on record admiring Hitler and saying that the jews got us into WWII, is this someone you want to respect?

because you've over-simplified his positions. At the risk of being flamed to death, I believe it IS possible to admire Hitler's oratorical and political skills without endorsing a single thing he believed. Just like I admire Leni Riefenstahl's filmmaking skills without admiring the subjects she chose.
And I respect him for the same reasons I respect Barry Goldwater. They were both principled conservatives. I'll take a principled conservative over a neocon any day.

9. How can you over simplify |
|
Someone like that? Just because he sometimes says things that liberals can agree with doesn't mean we should buy the whole package.

10. I'm not "buying" anything. |

I've already stated I disagree with him on most issues.
But I respect the fact that his arguments are based on his principles, and not on partisan politics.
