We have all kinds of folks here...all ages...all sexes (and a few I've never heard of!) all kinds of jobs...all kinds of likes and dislikes...oversexed people and undersexed people (mostly oversexed people)...married people, single people...serial daters...loners...cat lovers...cat haters...dog lovers...dog haters...stalkers...recluses...loud mouths...shy ones...mothers...fathers...sons...daughters...grandmas...grandpas... deliquents...sad folks and folks in trouble...sick folks...students...working stiffs...retired folks...unemployed folks...rich folks...poor folks...in between folks...folks happy to be alive...folks wishing they were dead...folks trying to stay alive...all kinds of folks.
And we seem to get along and, for the most part, support eachother and treat eachother with respect, gentility, campassion, tolerance...can we bottle this? Maybe sell it to GD? By all means, lets not lose it!
P.S. Seriously, today was sad for me and a day to reflect and be grateful for what I have. And it just struck me what a unique place this is, a haven, a respite...a place I love to come to. :-)

I love it too.
May I venture to ask why you're sad today and is there anything I can do to help?

It's just September 11 I think. I woke up this morning sad and , of course, have heard nothing since but "911". Will is traveling, which makes me nervous, and this country is in such a mess. But I sat outside by the lake today and listened to the water and realized how lucky I was to be in this quiet, beautiful place...just where I want to be. And there was a blue heron who perched on the bow of a boat in the cove next to me. It was so calm and beautiful...it sat on the prow of that boat like one of those old car hood ornaments. I don't know, maybe being able to see that made me sad for the folks who will never see that.

26. Thanks For The Description |
|
I've never seen that....
I grew up in South-Eastern Ohio with woods, farms and a creek running by my front door. I miss all that and more; including the Cottonmouth that chased my ass for two miles down a creek.
Be proud of yourself; your son is making a big difference and I don't see how he could have done it without your guidance and help.

Full of "Pizen" and I feel the same way.
Read "Tom Sawyer" and "Huckleberry Finn" the same summer.
Got so bored during the summer school break that I took my Dad's hatchet and built my own Log Cabin two miles upstream from the house.
On Edit: No caves nearby or I would have been searching for a "Becky Sawyer."

5. I was thinking this the other day, too... |
|
DU is compromised of people from many walks of life, and I thought it was so cool that I was one of them - just another of about 26000 (not 30000+ - i'm not counting freep disruptors, they have nothing to offer) people that are completely different. Sure, we share traits, but none of us are exactly the same. Kinda interesting, when you really think about it....

I'm much more of a reader than a poster (2K posts in over 2 years) but I've learned a lot and I try to apply what I learn in my personal life.
The only thing I would like to see happen is to agree to disagree without flaming anyone: intellegent discourse is mandatory to unify the Anti-Shrub movement without anyone feeling that they've been left behind.
Well, mabye two---I'd love to stuff a Bobcat up Asskrap's anal canal.

This place is all that and more. Us true believers have to stick together in this crazy world. I have only been hanging here awhile, but I just *love * it. I'm like Mr Pitt, I've learn to laugh at the wolfpack in GD, may the great spirit bless them all.

I have learned more about politics and people in the last few years than I had in my entire lifetime <--- That's either a huge compliment for DU or a condemnation of my life. You decide. ;-)
If you hang out here long enough, you will never be the same. and I think that's what's so powerful about DU. I've never been surrounded by so many intelligent, creative, caring and witty people.
Thanks to all of you who make DU an incredible place to be. :grouphug:
