mmmm sweet and sour cabbage soup

that's one of my favorite soups... now I must procure some tomorrow... curse you and your soupy goodness!

3. It's WAY easy to make

I use a beef base (stock)
about 2 quarts.
First I cook either flank steak, short ribs or stew meat in it for a couple hours.
Then add 2 cans of chopped tomatos
1 can tomato sauce
about 3 chopped garlic cloves
1 medium onion
2 lbs of cabbage
6 tbs brown sugar
and 1/4 cup of cider vinegar

and of course salt and pepper to taste

let it simmer till the cabbage is cooked

4. Well borscht is beets and this is cabbage

but borscht gets its flavor from the sweetness of the beets and the sour of the vinegar so yes...a little.

I guess it wasn't an authentic recipe. Oh well, it was still wonderful. :shrug:

and some borscht recipes do call for cabbage :shrug: but always beets

I had sweet and sour cabbage tonight but not as a soup. As a side dish. It was yummy too.
