So, I think I just cut off my family. |
|
If they won't back me financially, I'm screwed.
I can't take this awful feeling in the pit of my stomach anymore.

1. Do you mean they cut you off? |
|
Was it because you did not support Bush?

4. I don't know what I'm going to do. |

I'm sick of dealing with them...but I still need them financially. My mother sent me a stupid fundy thing tonight and I'm so angry I can't see straight.
I already sent a somewhat nasty e-mail. My finger is poised over the "send" button to send ont that says what I really think.
I'm not doing well today.

8. Here is what I know about family |
|
they are your family even if they dont think the way you do.
They will still love you and you need to keep that finger off the send button.
I get emails from my mom, i delete them and I write her back but do not mention the content of her letter to me.
Look, if you must send them an email back, wait a day and re-read it, think of what the affect will be and if you still want to send it, send it But it can wait a day anyway.
I have a lot of unsent letters in my outbox

Maybe we can find you some good Dem friends on here who are close enough to your home to help when you need it? (Like with the water, etc?) I sure hope! I am a continent away but at least know that somebody is thinking of you!
Just no matter WHAT happens -- family happens, but you choose your friends (and they choose YOU).

9. Why do this to yourself |
|
both emotionally and financially.
You don't HAVE to have a conflict with them over politics.
You can choose to let it roll off you. You can choose to ignore it.
If you cannot change them and you cannot 'win' (whatever that might be), why continue an argument ?
Let them say what they will. It doesn't have to affect you if you choose to not let it.
Try the Serenity Prayer, part:
God grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change; courage to change the things I can; and wisdom to know the difference.

I know it's hard to hold your tongue, but it's even harder to be poor and starve. I've been there, I know. You'd probably make it through fine, but you never know what can happen.
Whenever I have the urge to send something that I know might cause irreversable harm to a relationship, I always wait at least 12 hours before I send it. If I still feel I must send the letter/email, then off it goes. Most often, I've cooled down and thought better of it by then.
Hope it works out for you!

12. The Republican Party left me 40 years ago and I became the outcast. |
|
I just learn not to discuss politics near election time. Because of the recount, I wasn't even invited to family thanksgiving in 2000.
However, never has the rift been wider than in the last 8 years. It started with Monica and got worse since Dubya. I got along much better with my family during Watergate. Bush gets power from being a divider, pitting the nation against itself. Bush has to demonize those who don't agree with him.
