Is this what a bible thumper is?
People With Issues
(1) Michael J. Sterkins, 51, was arrested in Lockport, La., in July and charged as the man who, in five incidents, grabbed girls and women in cemeteries and cut off their ponytails. (One ponytail was recovered from his home, with the ends glued, placed underneath the Bible at his bedside.) (Daily Comet (Houma, La.), 7-14-04)

My experience and believe me I've had enough experience with Bible thumpers (I have a family of 'em on my fathers side and I was a Bible thumping Pentacostal) MOST I'm gonna guess 99.9% of these crazed people are mentally ill. That is why they get so fanatical about their religion. They are not right in the head and crab onto religion as a way to hide their true sickness. It's really scary how many of these fanatics are really sick and need professional help - not some idiot on the pulpit telling them they are *right*.

14. The ones in the pulpits are con artists
much of the time. They make their money from others' suffering.

It's very sad and the very antithesis of "moral values"

6. Bible Thumpers I have known
As a Texan, while I grew up in the state, I always spent the summers on my grandmothers farm in Malvern, Arkansas. I played with the children of the share-croppers, and stayed over nite at their house and went to the local church with them. I was so impressed with the fact that they had so very little, but always had a lusty hatred for the people they considered lower than they were, which they called red-necks. So I think that the "bible thumpers" feel they are elevated in their status because they use religion to rationalize their status and plight. Just my own opinion of course.

8. You have posted a lot of news stories today.
Would you mind posting the link please? None of your stories are attributed anywhere and thus are unverifiable. Plus, no offense, but the way you're posting them is very hard to read, format-wise. Thanks!

12. The news organization posting the story
and the date of the post is listed at the end of the article. I have attempted to verify with the various news organization the accuracy of these stories. What is wrong with my format? Any advice would be helpful.

Thanks,
i'm not always mad.

13. Oh, no, just, you know, post the link.
So that we can go look for ourselves. If you post the link you won't have to put that info at the end! :)

The formatting is just all together, with no line breaks. A little harder to read.

You definitely don't have to verify news sources yourself, especially to post in the Lounge! This place is for fun. If you give us the link, we can go to the site and look around for ourselves, and especially if it's a more serious story, we can see if it's a reputable site.

Not a big deal, just most people will post the link and we're used to it, I guess. I'm getting old and set in my ways! :)

Welcome to DU. :hi: :toast:

15. I would do that,
but a lot of news organizations, will charge to get into their web sites, and most people will just be pissed if they go to a web site and have to pay to read an article that is two or three weeks old. I try to put stuff out that is at least somewhat verifiable (I guess that's just me).
