Important Bird question!!! for the bird experts...
I got a cage for my cockatiel, but is bar spacing very important?

The space between the bars is about 1 inch. I really need to know if this is a problem, because I just was reading something about the bird not being able to stick it's head out the cage. :(

Please advise!!!!!!!

2. No, I bought it on my own....
but I think now it's a mistake. :( I've heard 5/8 inch is best.

I'll take a look at one tommorrow, I didn't buy this cage at the pet store.

I don't want my little sweetie to get hurt.

3. Think I would have 1/2 inch.
spacing for this size bird. I have 3/4 space bars for my Conure.

6. i think you are okay
our female is in a inch wide cage, the male in a 1/2 inch cage, bar-wise.

i think it's to keep us out, rather than them in, protection, etc.

Both like it with the door open, and come and go with activity in the room. We shut the cage door when we are gone for long periods, and open them again later, they hop up and sit on the threshold. Sometimes they venture out, the male flies about the room, roosts in the kitchen on the cup rack (?). We just put him back on his cage door.

The more you handle and acclimate your bird to the outside of the cage, the more it will appreciate the safety and privacy inside of it, and be sure you have a good cover for it.

did you decide on a name yet?

7. I agree with what everyone said.
If you can't return the cage, maybe you can sell it to someone through the classifieds--or save it for the future, when you can't resist getting a larger bird. lol :-)
