The Gold Standard For Vomitous, Wretched Surprises
So I'm in Houston this past week, and tghe plane is coming in, and the announcer says, "We will shortly be landing at the George Bush Intercontinental Airport."

That was bad.

I'm walking down the hall to catch my plane to Austin, and I pass this series of ten floor-to-ceiling panels of Bush, Reagan and the reigning ignorant one. They stretched way down the hall.

That was worse.

Today, I'm in George Bush airport again, and I pass all the picture panels again...and I come across this:

The fellow in the picture is not me; I googled this.

The statue is ten feet of bronzed George Herbert Walker Bush with his coat tossed saucily over his shoulder and his tie frozen in mid-jaunty-flap. I came down the hall and saw it out of the corner of my eye and almost shat on myself.

Unreal.

1. WOW
The only good thing about this - at least there is not a bronze sock stuffed in his trousers.

This guy really has the dictatorly love of placing images of himself all over. There was a thread yesterday about how they have taken down a hallway of historic photos in the White House and replaced it with all bush photos!

then at least the scenery, and environment should be clearer.
uh, unless the 'hurkin issabel' is mucking it up there tomorrow, in which case you can just sleep it off and try not to dream of that bogus statue.

Edited on Wed Sep-17-03 11:05 PM by Punkingal
I refused to call it George Bush Intercontinental...I just called it Intercontinental. Depending on where in Houston you are going, you might want to fly into Hobby...the two airports are 40 miles apart.

5. Hah!
and you thought travel was gonna be all wine and roses!

You'll have to tell your publisher's you need more money if they're going to make you endure that sort of thing.

Or was this a 'pleasure' trip?

You came across a statue of Bush and almost shat ON yourself...

Now that's just sick....

(Considers possible ways of shitting on yourself........nope, it's impossible....).

On Edit - actually, that statue itself looks like it may have been made out of shit, although given how shiny it is it may disprove the age-old adage, "You can't polish a turd".....

13. Welcome back to New England
Where it seems like most things are named after Nathan Hale. A bit easier to stomach IMHO.
Hope you had a wee bit of fun though.

14. Wanna hear some real irony?
Steelworkers from Local 8888 of the USWA are now building the soon-to-be USS George HW Bush at Newport News Ship.

Sure glad I finally got out of that place, lest all sorts of "unpatriotic" scribblings appear all over the primered steel as the ship comes together...

That does resemble the things seen in dictatorships! Normally, we in the U.S. don't put up statues of people who aren't dead yet. Even those Confederate soldiers on just about every public square in the South were usually put up a number of years after the end of the Civil War, in other words, a number of years after the soldiers they represented died.

It's one thing (it's OK) to have a bust of a former president at the Presidential Library for that president, say at the Ford, Reagan or Carter library. It's getting wierd to have a big statue in a public facility like an airport, even if it's in Texas.

On the other hand, the Soviets and Romanians and Saddam loved to have statues and portraits of their fearless Leaders everywhere. Onkel Adolf's mug shot was in about every German office from the mid-30s to the end of the war.
