Why do I have to walk my cat to his food bowl? |
|
Edited on Thu Nov-18-04 09:20 PM by darkstar
Seriously. It used to be he'd come hang around and meow at me when the bowl was empty. Then when there wasn't enough freshy-fresh in there for his tastes.
Now, the bowl can be full of new bag, freshly heaped goodness and he wants me to walk him back there and stand while he eats.
Anyone else? At first it was kind of annoying but I'm rolling w/ it. Kind of a "take time out and talk to him and forget about shit for a while" ritual for me now.

But maybe a contemplative stroll to the feedtrough w/ Mookie would get you over the provisional acceptance blues?
Seriously. Hang tough on that shit. Son't let 'em push you around. I went for PhD after 10 year break at age 40.
Sincere best wishes.

That gives me hope. I'm only going for a masters for now. The EdD will have to wait.
And about your cat, don't feel bad. Our cat had us over a barrel for a while. She would meow for my husband to feed her when he got up in the morning (way earlier than me) and then she'd meow at me when I got up and so I'D feed her. Damn cat, no wonder she was getting so fat. We figured it out eventually and now only he feeds her.
They're sneaky bastages, they are.
Thanks again!

I have to physically put my finger in it and jostle the food around, then, only then does he eat it. I guess they have our number, huh?:)

but I feel the same about my 4-year-old's "Come wipe my butt!" yell from the other end of the house. She's perfectly capable of wiping her own butt, but for some reason, she still wants me to do it. I've just started looking at it as a time for me to take a break... wipe a small butt... wash hands...

Diary of a Cat
DAY 752: My captors continue to taunt me with bizarre little dangling objects. They dine lavishly on fresh meat, while I am forced to eat dry cereal. The only thing that keeps me going is the hope of escape, and the mild satisfaction I get from ruining the occasional piece of furniture. Tomorrow I may eat another houseplant.
DAY 761: Today my attempt to kill my captors by weaving around their feet while they were walking almost succeeded, must try this at the top of the stairs. In an attempt to disgust and repulse these vile oppressors, I once again induced myself to vomit on their favorite chair...must try this on their bed.
DAY 762: Slept all day so that I could annoy my captors with sleep depriving, incessant pleas for food at ungodly hours of the night.
DAY 765: Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body, in attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was...Hmmm. Not working according to plan..
DAY 768: I am finally aware of how sadistic they are. For no good reason I was chosen for the water torture. This time however it included a burning foamy chemical called "shampoo." What sick minds could invent such a liquid? My only consolation is the piece of thumb still stuck between my teeth.
DAY 771: There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary throughout the event. However, I could hear the noise and smell the foul odor of the glass tubes they call "beer." More importantly I overheard that my confinement was due to MY power of "allergies." Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage.
DAY 774: I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The Bird on the other hand has got to be an informant. He has mastered their frightful tongue (something akin to molespeak) and speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my every move. Due to his current placement in the metal room his safety is assured. But I can wait; it is only a matter of time...
:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
*I'm pretty sure that day 775 was "Taught my owner to walk on command".. Gotta love cats!! As a side note, my cat doesn't do that. She seems content to keep us at a distance unless there's no food.*

I seriously thought my cat was neurotic just for this reason! Oh and he doesn't have a water dish - he drinks from my floating candle holder that doesn't even hold candles anymore. He jumps up on the table and will only drink from that.
Aren't cats great!

We surmised that she felt more secure eating while we were standing there to swat away any would-be attackers.

20. I think this could be it or she just likes company when she eats. |
|
I had a cat who liked to watch me eat. She would just purr like crazy. She never begged or asked for any of it, never smelled it, never hinted she wanted some, etc. I realized she just liked to watch me eat and that was it.

my girlfriend's cat's strange consumption habit is he has to push the water bowl around and spill the water on the floor, then lick it up. he won't drink from the bowl.

24. Seriously, I spoiled my cat when he was a kitten... |
|
and began stroking his neck, back, and tail every time he ate. From that time on he won't eat (while anyone is around) unless someone does that for him. In the middle of the night he'll get up on his own and feed himself. Otherwise, it's the same routine every day. And he'll throw a fit and follow one around if you don't give him what he wants/needs.

27. Our dog does the exact same thing. (m) |
|
I have to be near the dog food bowl for him to eat. But, I cannot look at him while he's eating, or he stops eating.
I wish I had an answer for you, but I don't. Pets can be so strange.
