Fun topic - let's list the conservatives' craziest statements |
|
Edited on Thu Sep-18-03 05:32 PM by mvd
I'll start with these Ann Coulter quotes.
about a disabled Vietnam veteran - "people like you caused us to lose that war."
about Arabs - "..invade their countries, kill their leaders, and convert them to Christianity."
about Lindh: "We need to execute people like John Walker in order to physically intimidate liberals, by making them realize that they can be killed, too. Otherwise, they will turn out to be ouright traitors."
about the late Pamela Harriman: "..whore.." (while Ann trots around in skimpy clothes)

You say you're supposed to be nice to the Episcopalians and the Presbyterians and the Methodists and this, that, and the other thing. Nonsense. I don't have to be nice to the spirit of the Antichrist. I can love the people who hold false opinions but I don't have to be nice to them."--Pat Robertson, The 700 Club, January 14, 1991
"The feminist agenda is not about equal rights for women. It is about a socialist, anti-family political movement that encourages women to leave their husbands, kill their children, practice witchcraft, destroy capitalism, and become lesbians." -- Pat Robertson, fundraising letter, 1992

2. Jerry Falwell, with Pat Robertson agreeing |
|
Falwell said that God might have allowed 9/11 to happen because of moral decay in the U.S. Falwell cited gays, feminists and the ACLU as being among the groups who might have brought the wrath of God on us.
Pat Robertson agreed with him, then waffled when the story blew up.

4. "If it takes a bloodbath, let's get it over with!" |
|
"No more appeasement."
remember that one? No? only us old fossils will.
It's RONALD REAGAN! Not talking about commie enemies, though. He's governor of California, and he's talking about quelling student anti-war (anti VIETNAM War) protests on California campuses! Prediction: some neocon PNAC type will be saying virtually the same thing soon.

5. It would have to be Tom Delay |
|
who said that so many minority youths had volunteered for "well-paying" military positions to escape poverty that there was literally no room for "patriots" like him. (about why he didn't serve in the Vietnam War)

We have so many talented designers, media specialists and creative types in our community.
I'd love to see some brilliant, widely distributed parodies that lampoon the crazy right during the upcoming campaign. The kind of stuff that would counteract the loud radio shows and their "Democrats are wackos" refrain.
