Beyond, The Blue Horizon.

My late mother had a succession of cars called "Betsy", including a 1950 Studebaker, a 1959 Plymouth Savoy, and a 1967 Plymouth Fury wagon.

23. Hey! I had a 78 chevette
2 door hatchback and it is true, I could carry everything in that. What was that joke ... I was driving my chevette and a cop pulled me over for speeding. I asked if he was going to give me a ticket and he said, no I just wanted to know how you did it.

And it stops on a dime, cuz it couldn't make it over one.

My previous car was Fern because it's color was called Fern Green. My friends is Pearl, my husband's previous car was Rose. All have to do with the color of paint. My car now is The Nut...color? Almond! And there's a nut behind the wheel.

14. Always name the car.
I had a blue Datsun B210 sedan that was the most awesome car. 40+ miles per gallon of gas. It only broke down, like twice in 16 years. It was named "Blue Lou" after Lou Marini Jr., the tenor sax player in the original Sat Night Live Band & Blues Brothers Band.

My current car is a 94 White Toyota Tercel, is named "Eggy". I wanted to name it something else - but then I realized that was my car's real name. Also a low maintenance, high mileage per gallon car.:hi:

15. I had an old Pontiac Ventura II
4 on the floor, adjustable air shocks and wide rear tires (very 70s) I called "The Beast".

I bought it off a fellow factory worker for $450. I always suspected he sold it to me so cheaply because something was wrong with it, and I waited for things to start falling off it. Nothing ever did. It was a great machine!

19. None of the recent ones
They don't have much personality to inspire a name....

But 20 years ago, a car got dubbed "the golden heap", based on its paint color. The steam conversion we did on Junkyard Wars got named "Frobette" (steam vehicles must have female names) and all the machines get names on the show.

Do name most of my bikes. But then again, since I design and build them myself, they don't come with model names.. The sport machine is called "Frankenbike", the commuter is "belt and suspenders", and our tandem is "Solvang Trondholm" (after the bronze age funeary cart that is pride of the royal museum in Copenhagen)

The various siege engines I help build get names, but they are mostly descriptive (eg: Mista Ballista).

21. They run better if you name them
My Jeep Grand Cherokee (aka Jeep WJ) is Wanda Jean.

Hubby's Intrepid is Irene.

The Jeep Grand Wagoneer I traded in for the new Jeep was Stella. (She just looked like a Stella!)

My old Monte Carlo was Monte, of course.

The white Chevy Baretta was known as Babe.

They just run better if you name them... it also helps if you never speak within their earshot of bonuses, raises and so-forth.

22. No, but I named two mo-peds
That my brother and I used from when I was in 8th grade until I graduated high school to deliver newspapers on - at 3 in the morning, every damn morning. The yellow one that kept giving us problems was Old Yeller, and the blue one without a muffler was Blue Thunder - like the movie about the super-copter.

Blue Thunder was my favorite. I once got it up to 35 mph out in the country... on a really long straight-away. What a rush. :)

24. "The Tank"
The car of one of my friends in high school. Me, her, and a third friend went everywhere in it. It was a giant Ford sedan (sorry, don't know the model), once bright yellow, then faded into a weird greeny yellow neon color, with a large brown bruise on one side and with a dark green vinyl interior. It guzzled gas (the owner had a can on the dash reading "Gas only grows on trees in a hundred thousand years") and was a boat and a half, but it was our wheels.

We were all furious at her sister when she killed it during our first semester at college. My friend came home and was backing the car out of the driveway when she touched the brakes and there was the grinding sound of metal on metal. "Oh, that's all right," her sister said. "That's what the brakes sound like."

28. My first car, a red 1993 Plymouth Sundance Duster (V-6 engine),
was dubbed, "Red Rocket." I went for a job interview, driving my mom's white Chrysler LeBaron, as I didn't have my own car yet. I got the job, and had basically a weekend to get a car. We went to the dealership and got the car. When I pulled into the parking lot my first day, my boss goes, "Sure, you come to the interview in a conservative car, and on your first day, you drive up in a red rocket." It's also fitting, considering my dad works for NASA. :)

34. Many cars.... many names
It all started with GOLDBUG, a VW beetle that my boyfriend and I bought with some money he got from an insurance claim (also GOLDBUG had been spray painted gold)

Then we broke up and I got NEBULOUS which was a weird not gray, not beige kind of nebulous color... This car lasted through anything

Then there was my VW Rabbit, a great little car for $4900 NEW...
she was RABU

Then there was the Mercedez Benz that my husband claimed was a "good investment". It immediately blew up and spent the next two years more in the shop than on the road. We named that one FRITZ, because it was frequently on the... oh well.

TO replace FRITZ, my husband went to rent-a-wreck and brought home this car that had ripped upholstery, no seat belts,a roof that looked like the rats had sucked on it and a paint job done with a roller brush. A lovely Delta 88....The car really moved!
It had plastic saints on the dashboard and only got one Spanish radio station. We called it RODRIGUEZ

My son named the next car.... a Grand Prix... sleek and fast, and fit my body perfectly. He named he OPA OPA after his favorite video game.

Today I have SIR, another Grand Prix FALINE, and a green Ediie Bauer Caravan named PICKLE.

Who knows what the next car will be named?
It may be a horse for all I know :)
