5. Glad Ass
Edited on Fri Sep-19-03 01:31 AM by sugarcookie
My given name is Gladys. Until the 6th grade...after that my teachers let me me go by my nickname. My social life improved after that.

3. Ugly, mostly
Plus a little of "all of the above," plus things that rhymed with my name, plus some random ethnic slurs on occasion (that seemed to have no relation to my actual ethnicity, oddly enough).

7. Most of the above...
...but, as with Dookus, some variant on "fag," "queer," "'mo," "fairy," etc. Of course, I'm heterosexual (actually, at that point, I wsa pretty much nonsexual), but what else do 6th grade boys call a kid who's just moved back to the U.S. from Europe, who speaks French better than English, and who has (quite unconscious) "European" mannerisms? He's certainly not one of us, that's for sure!

:-(

9. I went through a really awful period of teasing in Jr High
I was kinda geeky and had big time 'fro going on (very curly hair) was really skinny. For some reason my entire class just went after me like a pack of wolves. I was teased constantly. The teacher saw it all and never did a thing. God, it's still painful to think about that year and it was 20 years ago.

Hmm...happy thought...that was TWENTY years ago! Things did get better! Whoo HOO! I still wish all those evil bastards rot in hell though. O8)

12. I had a similar thing
Thanks to a really bad perm, that started a trend in school where people called it a rat's nest and decided to make it their mission to make my life a living hell any way they could. It didn't help that I was mildly autistic with crap social skills, a temper, and was easily startled by loud noises. Things went from crap to shit when I decided for the fun of it to take the pro side of animal testing (since almost no one else would do it) in a class debate and people started calling me an animal killer and molestor. I'm just glad I survived with my sanity intact.

"Stutter" or "Porky"(not because I was fat)
With an obvious speech impediment these two haunted me for years till I grew and started to kick some ass.
Damn! Kids can be cruel!

13. One thing I always wondered
Is what makes children so incredibly cruel despite all the messages they got from people and TV to be nice to others?

14. I think, children do not learn from messages, they learn from
examples. They listen to how their parents act, and try to do the same to others. Blame the parents, not the children for cruelty.

11. They called me some of the nastiest shit.
Bullies don't call kids those sissy-ass names. At least not in Minneapolis in the mid-1990's. Don't know about other cultures, but those options aren't exactly things that Junior High kids would say. "Faggot", "Cock-Sucking Motherfucker" and "Assfucking Jizzmouth", among others, were what they called me.

16. They called me long distance if they had any sense at all!
I was 6'1" 190 pounds in the ninth grade (14 years old)! I ran the 440 in 53 seconds in the 10th grade! If there were too many to whoop I could out run the geeks! The bullies around here were mostly in gangs and rode around in cars jumping on people they outnumbered five or six to one! I'd catch them one at a time when I could! These punks were draft aged but they jumped out on kids and old men they thought they could whip just for laughs! I tangled with them twice and they were sadly mistaken both times! The older ones learened I had a real mean daddy too! The hunters became the hunted!

My Dad told me from the get go, "Don't start any trouble, but don't run from it!"

17. Casper or Ghost
Our school was so pathetic that since they didn't have any minorities to pick on they picked on anyone who looked different. I wasn't albino, just pale and wasn't keen on going out in the sun. I'm your typical blonde hair/blue eye freckled kid.

Can't be bothered with them anymore

20. Oreo, among other things...
I was physically assaulted regularly. I fled north across the Mason-Dixon line after an incident where I stood up to a bully who then recruited some dozens from the segregated high school down the way to "get me." Members of our football team got wind of it (I was a cheerleader) the center assigned himself my bodyguard, picked me up under his arm, deposited me in the girls' room and stood watch. Once eveyone was distracted by the "rumble" another team member whisked me out of the building and drove me home. In the aftermath, the police were called, the bully was expelled and I got the hell outta Dodge.

21. My mom did not make a lot of money so
I did not always have the latest in fashion...the other kids would make fun of how I dressed and then later call me a nerd because I liked science fiction (specifically was a Star Trek FANATIC).

The bullying lasted from 2nd grade to my sophomore year in high-school when I finally was able to make friends with other nerds who were in the honors classes with me.

Yeah we say we value intelligence in the US, but smart kids are still demonized.

23. The standard perjoratives for Italians and Catholics
Edited on Fri Sep-19-03 07:26 AM by SOteric
"dago," "whop," and "mackerel snapper," plus special honours for abusing my family name in creative ways, the standards of 'beanpole,' 'skeeter,' 'flyweight,' and the entirely creative 'zipperchick.'

Life is it's own revenge. 3 out of 4 little boys who taunted me in my youth tried to date me as a teenager. They failed.

24. Try moving to a new town at age 12...being shy...
...somewhat smart and geeky...the whole enchilada...

Junior High flat-out sucked. I'm sure some of the stuff I went through back then still haunts me today. But, for the most part, I learned a lot from those jerks. I wish they had left me alone, but they didn't so I have had to make the most of it.

I *have* from time to time wished that they would meet some horrible, yet temporary, fate to slap them into reality, but honestly, I hardly think of them anymore.

They basically said that I was a weirdo, maybe even insane. I was also considered a major nerd. My fifth grade teacher called me "The Absent Minded Professor".
