I'll forward a link to a few thinking people I know, but I bet I could easily offend a few (if they had brains enough to read through and think about it).

2. Muslims have spin doctors, too... |

looks like this was done up by NewsMax Islam.
Nothing but fallacies and poor spelling.

3. This is not how ordinary people think of Islam |
|
Most people can draw a distnction between radical hardliners and ordinary people practicing a religion. The people that this little flick is responding to are a small minority of bigots, imo.

It fails to adequately address the issues it talks about. Nuns are free to leave the convent at any time. Women in Islamic theocratic countries are *not* free to wear what they like, and retribution can be very severe if they disobey.
But I have to agree that typical American characterizations based on turbans and beards are unfortunate. Apparently any "raghead" with a beard is a terrorist. This kind of bigotry has to change.

8. Man, we sure have a lot of people here in this country from |
|
Iran, Iraq, Turkey, Afghanistan, etc. considering these people are not able to leave their countries.
Or at least we do in the modern Babel of North Alabama.
/sarcasm off
You write: "It fails to adequately address the issues it talks about."
It's a two minute flash bringing up talking points. WHile a bit amature, I feel it brings up some good questions for discussion. Seems to have worked here.

9. I'm not sure what your point is... |
|
Are you saying it is OK for a whole country to have a misogynistic society because women can leave if they want to?
Or are you denying that Iran, for instance, is misogynistic?

10. That's not what I was saying, but if you consider Webster's definition |
|
of a misogynist, I'll say that the countries you mention are not misogynistic. Repressive and filled with attitudes I don't agree with, but there are a hell of a lot of people (male and female) there who want to be there and feel that there way is the right way to live. Much the same way you feel about the way you were indoctrinated.

5. Propaganda, pure and simple |
|
Of course I have a problem with all organized religion. The love of money isn't the root of all evil.....religion is! Go ahead beat me up now.
BTW...No other holy book preaches over and over, to kill infidels! I think the bastards have visions of world domination myself.

6. Who was the guy who said... |
|
...something like "The two worst evils in the world are organized crime and organized religion".
Someone replied, laughing, that most people would agree with him as to one of the two. He replied "Well, I think organized crime is bad too".

11. Nuns choose to wear their garb, is it not true that |
|
Muslim women get battered if they "stray from tradition"?
They should be allowed to choose. It shouldn't be forced upon them by a fascist entity.
The flash movie was warm and cozy, but it is a bit one-sided in its appeal for tolerance.
Personally, they're as bad as the fundie Christians when it comes to homosexuality. Possibly worse as I know a Muslim who, fortunately, doesn't know I'm gay. The worst that fundie Christians have done to me is raise a middle finger and scream "faggot" though I know there are lunatics who'd kill me in an attosecond. The Muslim I know is otherwise a civilized person (he's not a lunatic), but his own brother (who accepts what I am) told me some frightning things if he were to find out.
Personally, all religions as they stand cause more harm than good. 'tis better to start afresh with something new that doesn't promote hate.

Frankly, i am taken aback by the level of intolerance, sweeping generalizations and attitude of dismissiveness in some of the postings here toward Islam.
Do we Americans know so much about Islam that we can dismiss the Flash site as "spin?" "fallacies?" or refer to Muslims as "these people?" My god! I would expect this patronizing attitude among the Republican or Limbaugh crowd, but HERE!!
Institutionalized religions, religious bureaucracies and patriarchy have corrupted Islam AND Christianity. However, the original intent of Islam and all religions is to ensure social justice, ethical conduct and compassion.
C'mon people. . . your bigotry is showing.
