In the realm of minor injury..
there is nothing quite like the flash of pain that rips through your body when you fall and sprain your ankle. It's completely disproportionate to the severity of the injury.

I did this last night getting off the bus. I'm sitting with ice on my ankle today.

1. ugh....one of the worst pains
I "fell" out of a pair of mules (open back shoes) two
years ago and pulled tendons in both feet...we forget
how valuable our feet are for getting us around...

hope you repair sooner than later. :-)

2. Sprain can be worse than a break,
says the doc who treated mine. There's not a lot to do for a sprain, which can be intensely painful. Takes longer to heal than a break, too. I didn't do the recommended physical therapy (simply too expensive at the time), and have come to regret it. If that's an option for you, I suggest you do it.

3. I would second that
I used to BMX stunt bike (like in the x-games). I was doing a plant tail whip and my leg got caught inside the bike. It whipped around and left my leg bent at a sideways 45 degree angle, ripping everything in my knee. Do the therapy if its a nasty sprain. It can save you lots and lots of trouble down the road.

With a break you can set it and its inconvient but will heal

4. that stinks
Been there. Don't over do the "rest" part of RICE -- I did too much resting the first sprain I had and experienced twinges for months. The second sprain I was careful to start exercising as soon as possible -- no damn ankle brace -- and I couldn't believe how much better I got how much faster. Don't abuse your ankle but don't pamper it either, is what I'm saying.

5. Thanks for the tip.
I did normal pottering about the house today, with interludes of rest.

6. oh amen!
Jeez, last January, i was at school, and slipped down the stairs. i ended up with a torn ligament in my right ankle, worst pain i've ever experienced. Needless to say, my ankle is still swollen after nearly 9 months. I had a cast and everything, it was flat out miserable.
