What do you want out of your life?
Personally, not politically. What do you want?

Honestly, I've never entirely known what I wanted, aside from the things, like my marriage, that I didn't know I wanted and needed until after they'd snuck up and whacked me upside the head. The last time I remember knowing what I wanted, it was "to know everything" and I was maybe six years old.

Hey, it's Friday. Anyone?

3. A couple of things I don't have...
Edited on Fri Sep-26-03 08:26 PM by GOPisEvil
1. A job that makes me WANT to get out of bed and work there ALL DAY. A job where I feel as though I make some sort of positive impact on society. As long as it pays enough to keep me debt-free, that's all I need. I don't have many expensive tastes, and those expensive tastes I do have, I can satisfy in a discount way. :-)

2. A deep, meaningful long-term relationship with a wonderful woman. :-) If it's the sexy ACLU lawyer here in town, so much the better. ;-)

5. I want peace.
Edited on Fri Sep-26-03 08:30 PM by LWolf
Serenity. I don't want to have to worry or spend my candle at both ends trying to keep things going.

Healing. I want my wounds and scars to heal in this lifetime.

I want my own safe space that no one can intrude on. With room for my horses so I don't have to make appointments to talk to them.

I want enough space to grow everything I've ever wanted to grow.

I want to spend my time with good books. With growing things. Walking. Wandering. Pondering. In conversation with people that I care about. I want to see some of the world outside the narrow sphere I've lived in. I want to walk lightly, leaving the world no worse off when I'm gone.

6. A job that I enjoy
I've gone back to college to finish up my degree in pursuit of that. There are few worse predicaments in life than having to do a job that you hate. Think of all the time that you have to spend at work and having to pass that begrudging every moment. I used to work sixty hours a week at a job like that. It can make your life hell.

With healthy doses of love, further opportunity to make a positive difference in this world through making the most of my abilities, and a plethora of excellent adventures.

And lotsa other stuff that I can't think of right now because I'm already envisioning a plethora of excellent adventures....

never leave you. Not too many people have such an intimately visceral knowledge of the feeling that is Zen-like motion - or surfing the Tao, maybe - and it's exactly the same as the elusive mental and spiritual equivalents that so many people search for and never find (probbaly 'cos they're searching for it).

All I can hope for is that I do my best to make myself worthy of their love.

14. Hey...
I still wanna know everything. I wake up every day feeling like I'm starving for information, so you can imagine my personal frustration with the Bush administration. I'm a current events freak. I wanna know the truth, even if it doesn't fit with my belief system. And I wanna eat sweets until a physician tells me that another piece of candy corn will kill me.

Beyond that, I take it day by day. I have a decent home, a wonderful husband and child, a supportive family. I have a small group of incredible friends. I have everything I need and some of what I want. I have electricity and running water and food. With all of these basic needs taken care of, it affords me great opportunities to read, think, consider, dream, imagine, and learn.

What more could a person want?

17. Many things, greedy bastard that I am.
Edited on Fri Sep-26-03 09:01 PM by SOteric
Most culminating in things like joy and fulfillment. I have repeatedly faced junctures in my life where I have had access to wealth and power.

They truly don't interest me. Perhaps it's having known and loved someone deeply who then passed from this life. Perhaps it's my own struggles with my health, but I'm keenly aware of how short life can be.

I chose three lowing-paying, but ultimately deeply fulfilling jobs (Sure, there are shitty days. It's a part of life) rather than the high-paying, glam job I had globe-hopping. I have never regretted that decision. I love what I do, and I make enough to subsist and support my kittiesMasters.

I hope I'm never famous. Fame doesn't appeal to me. I hope one day, after I'm gone, people will refer to my miscellaneous writings in academic circles. I hope people like them, and they find reasons to let them touch their lives.

I have been remarkably lucky in that almost all the men in my life have been exceptionally wonderful human beings. Brit and I don't have the most conventional arrangement. It's deep and defies easy description.

I guess what I want from life is happiness and fulfillment. And I'm finding quite a lot of it.

28. Good question ...
It troubles me lately.

I don't want a lot really. Just to do a good job at the things I choose to take on, whether they be personal or professional. The wisdom to have empathy for others - especially those who have had crosses to bear and disadvantages that I do not have first hand experience with - (There but for the Grace of God go I .... )

A job, I really would like a job. Not just for the obvious financial reasons, but, it is just not good for my mind to have so much idle time. I need to be contributing to something, and be on a regular schedule.

If the internet is down, thats okay. I'll read the paper
If I have a pop quiz, thats okay. I know what I know, thats what pop quizes are for.
If I don't get lunch, I'll have a good dinner.
If my Laundry doesn't quite get dry, well I guess thats okay. Wet clothes dry, even if you're wearing them.
If I get sick, well... I'll get better.
If Bush gets back in the white house, ummm.... working on that.

I want to deal with the punches thrown and grow despite them.

Inborn goal: Alleviate my own ignorance. There's still so much I don't know.
Goal I grew into: Alleviate despair, every chance I get. There's a lot of it around and I stay busy lifting spirits.

this is personal not political: I want the political situation to be of such a state that I wouldn't feel like it was necessary for me to be politically involved. I would want nothing more than to spend my free time, reading, writing and drawing instead of how I spend all of my free time now: political action.
