11. favs at the moment -
yep. all my music listings fall into that category.

I think if I paid attention to about 100 of these threads, and my replies to them over the course of about 8-10 months, I could probably get a better gauge of what really is my favorite.

I know Joni, Jeff Beck, and Pretenders pretty much always get in there somewhere, if possible. Most everything else is subject to change. Gee - they all have at least 20 years worth of history, and continue to release music; that probably is a factor, ya think?

28. They're climbing "my" charts
I've been aware of them since the early 70s; but didn't start really listening to them until a couple years ago. Clearly should have been grouped with my secondary 'long career base groups post, but because they're kind of "new" to me, they're not quite as deeply embedded in my brain.

I kinda vampired away from anything that sounded remotely like it might have been exposed to disco in the mid-70s, and ToP got caught in the fallout.

The Wild Simoan Gangsta Tribe (aka WSGT)

KMFDM stands for Keine Mehrheit Für Die Mitleid, which is a badly constructed German sentence which can be loosely translated to "No Pity for the Majority".

9. Santana (Okay, I get mixed messages on this: Santana (the albums from the '70's were a band, right?)

18. Three or more members?
Hmmm.

The Beatles (but of course....I include Wings as a subset)
The Beach Boys
Creedence

Huh. I don't really get excited about too many bands, I guess, at least not as much as solo performers. Most of the rest I can think of I liked mainly for one or two songs. And then there's the most excellent Village People....

Oh...wait a minute....here are some more:

Three Dog Night
Little River Band
The Eagles
Spinal Tap!!!!!!!!!!

And the rest is stuff like Fleetwood Mac, Cheap Trick, The Moody Blues, U2, Cold Chisel, The Temptations, The Drifters, Cream, The Doors, The Band, Hot Chocolate, Bee Gees, Abba (hey, I was a kid in the '70s), etc, and I can't pick and choose among 'em.

Sioux, smiths fan (who has a new nick that I can't remember)yourself and I have, far and away, the best taste of any DU'ers when it comes to modern pop/rock music.

For what it's worth. <chuckle, chuckle>

However, if you should decide to align yourself with us, it means that you must defend each and any member of said club, when it comes to matters of rocking out.

It all for one and one for all. What say you? :)

52. I thought hard about the Waterboys as well.
Though they're more of a house favorite. Mrs. XNASA really likes them a lot. Same goes for Squeeze and the early Utopia stuff. And REM, and U2. It's so hard to pick just 10.

Did you see my post to BurtWorm? I've invited him to be as cool as you and smiths_fan (what's his new name?) and I are.

53. I had missed it but yes! I think BurtWorm
definitely belongs in the club ;-) . Patti Smith Group!!!! Yes, he has most excellent taste! I've been noticing his taste all along actually.

BTW, Mrs. XNASA has excellent taste as well (well, duh, she chose you ;-) ). If you want to make huge points, uh, "Trumpets" by the Waterboys is on of my choices for all time sexiest songs ;-) .

54. Oh, and The Professor and Mac56
Edited on Thu Jul-17-03 10:48 AM by SiouxJ
they have similar taste too. What is Smiths_fan going by now? I was gonna ask him if he ever heard the Pretenders version of "Every Day is Like Sunday." I recently came across it in my collection and I've been kinda stuck on it.

56. The Professor has excellent taste in many things.
I don't go along with his "Fixx"ation, but there ya go. Probably has more to do with the fact that we played on a couple of bills with them back in the day and they were rather, um, aloof. As it were.

smiths_fan is now "Fenris"

Oh yes, and Mac56 too. How could I forget.

57. I was late to get into the Fixx
I didn't care for the albums that were massive hits (I remember working in a CD store and selling the hell out of Reach the Beach and not really getting it). I got into them with "Calm Animals." Even went to see them at a small club in San Diego on that tour. I really enjoyed them live.

67. Great list, but that's no surprise.
It was difficult for me to leave off EC (I even had a dog that I named Declan), but I guess I see him as a solo artist for the most part. Imperial Bedroom is the pinnacle of songwriting.

And though I was once a huge Utopia fan, I guess that some of their later work soured me a bit. Not that they still weren't better than 99% of the bands, at the time.

Wow, with the amazing Tim Buckley.

Spawner of the amazingly gifted, and tragically drowned Jeff Buckley.

60. Same with me
My tenth group could be The Jayhawks or The Beach Boys or The Stones or Pearl Jam or Abba or Blondie or The Police or Stone Temple Pilots, or more - but I was in the mood for The Moody Blues right now. :)

Hi, SiouxJ! :hi:

63. I'll go along with
ABBA, Blondie, The Police, or STP for sure! I like MB's a lot too though I wouldn't pick them as a favorite. I've seen them live many times. They are great outside with a full orchestra.

:hi: Matt!

59. You can tell my age by looking at this list
Yes, I am a child of the 80s. :-) In no particular order-

U2
Til Tuesday
The Cure
REM
The Smiths
Violent Femmes
Depeche Mode
Ramones
The Clash
Coldplay

Saw Marley and The Wailers mentioned, but I think of them more as a backup band- same as Buffet and the Coral Reefers, IMO. It was really Marley's show.

Glad to see Gin Blossoms and Toad mentioned too. They weren't around nearly long enough. :-(
