Saw George Harrison tribute film "Concert for George" this weekend! |
|
And I think it may very well be the greatest concert film I have ever seen! I found the whole thing captivating - from beginning to end. The musicianship was incredible, the guests were so classy, respectful, and funny; seeing Dani, George's son, perform on guitar with Eric Clapton, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr was one of the many moving aspects of the affair (as was Ravi Shankar's song), but ultimately the thing that made the film soar was George's beautiful music. Who WOULDN'T have been overshadowed by John Lennon and Paul McCartney? And yet - there was George, adding just the right parts to their incredible songs, while composing a number of great gems himself - before and after the Beatles. Billy Preston, Jeff Lynn, Tom Petty, and even George's beloved Monty Python really make this a fantastic experience. Truly an amazing tribute! See it now, before it's moved out of your local theater by Hollywood's newest piece of shit movie - and see it on a kick-ass sound system!

His work post-Beatles left the others in the dust, IMO. Harrison really was the Dark Horse!

5. Agreed. "All Things Must Pass" - best album by an ex-Beatle! |
|
He was younger, and therefore it seemed to take him time to catch up to their league as a composer.

The very first album released on Apple was Wonderwall Music. That was George's stuff while the Beatles were very much intact. To my ear, his composing skills were very well developed by then.

8. If you're ever in IL... |
|
My boyfriend and I stayed in a B & B run by George's sister, Louise Caldwell, in a little coal-mining town called Benton, IL; it also contains TONS of Beatle memorabilia, especially George stuff. :hi:
