Does anybody else watch SCRUBS?
And enjoy it as much as I do? I think it's one of the closest things we have to british comedy.

Everything about SCRUBS is FUNNY! I don't think they could have fit another joke inthat 22 minutes.

8. It's funny because it's TRUE!
I'm convinced the writers and/or producers really did spend time in a hospital. Napping in the morgue?! OMG!

I spent a lot of time around hospitals. Mom worked at Duke for many years; my dad, at the VA. And I worked at Duke for awhile myself.

Yeah, I love Scrubs - great show. Really dark humour, really, really funny.

We've tried to do a Brit version of it too, but it was pretty crap.

Interesting that the Brit version didn't work out. Just like our "Coupling" probably won't. *Sigh* Gotta get cable so I can get Beeb America.

I love dark humor. It's my favorite kind.

As in, Tender Loving Care....Although I might be mistaken.

It had one of the guys out of League Of Gentlemen in it, and it did have some hilarious moments, but was mostly just a bit rubbish.

If you haven't seen the League of Gentlemen, I recommend series 1 for the darkest humour around. Also, check out anything by Chris Morris, but be warned that it can be VERY offensive....

The Day Today (spoof news show) - e.g. headlines "Arafat ablaze in kerosene oyster hell"
Brasseye (spoof documentary) - we've had the Bible analysed and it reads like the ramblings of a drugged horse.

Absolutely hilarious.

Anyone who can get fired from the BBC for yelling "Christ's Fat Cock!" at Sir Cliff Richard during an interview gets my respect...

14. Whoops.....typo.....AT Cliff Richard....!
More quotes:

"The headlines tonight - Euro MPs headsets play the sound of screaming women, Bryan Ferry bathmat poisonous say lab and bouncing elephantiasis woman destroys central Portsmouth. Those are the headlines - happy now?

It's been revealed that the junior Treasury Minister, Michael Portillo, carries a sawn-off shotgun to constituency meetings, corners children in parks and chews their cheeks and has frequent sexual intercourse with stray animals, claiming "As long as it's got a backbone, I'll do it". That story we reported last week, and have since discovered it to be untrue."

Ha ha ha....GOTTYA!

:-)

I'm trying to think of really good "UK style" US comedies......and there aren't many.

There are lots of good US comedies but not many have the "dry, intelligent wit" of Britcoms....

MASH would definitely have been one.......

Please bear in mind that a lot of Britcom is also crap, you only get a small portion (oo err missus) of it.

"Since making that report, all those in it have lost their hair...."

I'm sorry, were you talking about me? :D

- Yes, M*A*S*H is one, definitely. That's one show I plan to collect the entire DVD set. It's just too funny, even (and especially) today.

I'm sure there's a couple more, but I'm just drawing a blank right now.

33. Still Standing is good
I like it. The guy who plays the Dad is British. It's standard sitcom family fare, but a little more edgy than normal, and it doesn't have that "dad is a bad parent, mom is a good parent" thing that they usually have.

Doctor In The House actually started in the late 60s in the U.K., but made it to U.S. syndication a few years later.

An hilarious series. I especially loved the episode with the hearse, and the one with the strip club ("They ARE naked, and they ARE dancing!").

Sadly, I looked up that series on IMDb, and was shocked to find out that the actors who played the two principal students, Barry Evans (Michael Upton) and Robin Nedwell (Duncan Waring) both died in their mid-50s. Nedwell apparently died from complications of an injury he sustained when he fell off his roof while trying to clean it; I have no idea what happened to Evans, except that he left acting after the Doctor... series, and was driving a cab in his last years.

20. Oh yes,
the hardass Dr and the Janitor are a scream huh?

The show verges on the surreal at times, or so it seems to me.
Marcia Brady cameo was so surreal tonight.

Tonight at the end when they were kissing at Sea World and the dolphins came up out of the water and flipped. I don't know why that cracked me up, but it did. It was hysterical to me.

Show brings tears to my eyes.

The black nurse who lost the tooth saying she was tired of looking like Larry Holmes !! My side was hurting.

I love his personality- at first I thought he was a bastard, but after watching the series develope, I've totally fallen in love with him. The actor who plays him is very good looking and helps with many noteworthy organizations for Down Syndrome afflicted kids.
I wish I could watch it more- it's on during my work shift :(

I think the writing is fresh and funny and the characters are real and sympathetic. I used to work with the networks, writing synopses and recommendations, and this one would have been on my ``best bet'' list every week. I love the lines given to Dr. Cox, particularly. No one is that clever, but the writing on this show is!:D
