The only Democrat in my old high school is now a Republican. :(

I thought I'd get back in touch with her because if any person of that crowd is worth knowing, I thought it would be her. Sigh. I discovered that she is now a Republican. :( :( :( :( :( :(

In my e-mail I told her, "Please don't tell me that you switched from Democrat to Republican."

She told me.

Right now I live in a sea of fundies and freepers. I imagine this person is more open-minded than most, but I just don't think it's worth the effort to renew an old friendship. I have this urge to make new friendships that haven't already failed over time.

I'm also in a fragile place right now. For the past ten to fifteen years I've been an agnostic and a reluctant Republican. In the past three years I've become an atheist and now a Democrat. I need time to rest and figure out who I am while I sit in the ashes of my old beliefs.

She doesn't sound whacked-out like my family. She still sounds like she has an open mind to some extent, but for the past few years my Save Ladyhawk Alarm™ has been going off whenever I think about approaching someone from my past.

I want to go FORWARD, you know? I want to leave the past where it belongs and go forward.

It was my mother who suggested I get back in touch with Veronica and I resisted, so my mother gave her my e-mail address.

How do you just kind of talk to someone a few times and let it dwindle? I don't even really want to see her. :(
