I been warped by the rain, driven by the snow...
I'm drunk and dirty, don't you know
And I'm still
Willin'

And I was out on the road late at night
And I seen my pretty Alice in every head light
Alice
Dallas Alice

And I've been from Tucson to Tucumcari
Tehachapi to Tonapah
Driven every kind of rig that's ever been made
Driven the back roads so I wouldn't get weighed
And if you give me
Weed, whites, and wine
And you show me a sign
I'll be willin'
To be movin'

I've been kicked by the wind, robbed by the sleet
Had my head stoved in, but I'm still on my feet
And I'm still
Willin'

Now I smuggled some smokes and folks from Mexico
Baked by the sun, every time I go to Mexico
And I'm still

And I've been from Tuscon to Tucumcari
Tehachapi to Tonapah
Driven every kind of rig that's ever been made
Driven the back roads so I wouldn't get weighed
And if you give me
Weed, whites, and wine
And you show me a sign
I'll be willin'
To be movin' :smoke:

1. Six feet of snow

Coming through my radio
It's raining in stilettos
From here clear down to Mexico

My hands are numb
From hanging on that steering wheel
They're frozen tight
Hope the wind don't blow me off the road tonight

Don't you know the ice and snow
Is sneaking in through my window
Don't you know how much I hate to be so cold
And so alone
I'm coming home

If it wasn't for the lines that wind side by side
I'd be lying next to her
Next to her tonight

Sweet New Orleans
That's where my girl, she waits for me
Hair so long and eyes so green
She's the prettiest girl I've ever seen

Don't you know the ice and snow
Is sneaking through this boy's window
Don't you know how much I hate to be so cold
And so alone
I'm coming home

If it wasn't for the lines that wind side by side
I'd be lying next to her
Next to her tonight

3. I thought it was hilarious when Linda Ronstadt sang that...
Edited on Thu Mar-03-05 09:41 AM by Redstone
Imaging little ol' Linda rasslin' a big rig down Wolf Pass late at night in a snowstorm, nothin' else movin' in them lonely mountains but the howlin' wind...

PS: There's a grammatical error in that song. You haven't had your head "stoved in." You have had your head "stove in." (No 'd' at the end of the word.) Stove is the past tense of stave. "Stave" as in a chunk of wood, such as a barrel stave, in this case.

Just thought you'd like to know.

4. I know 'stoved' is wrong, but it's right for the narrative voice
...and I'm usually an insufferable grammar cop.

7. Well, Richardo, you have a point.
When I was a musician back in the dim dark past, I tried to change the stuff like "ain't got no" in some of the other people's songs I did, but it frequently didn't work, so I understand what you mean.

And here I am, Mr Run-On Sentence himself, criticizing other people's grammar!

"Elderly man river
That elderly man river
He must know something
But he doesn't say anything
He just keeps rolling
He just keeps rolling along...."

etc etc :D

5. Little Feat in person, with Lowell George at his peak...
Gave some of the best shows I ever saw. They recorded a "live" album when he was already on the way out....

Oh I've been 'cross the country
From Denver to the ocean
And I've never met girls who can sing so sweet
As the Angels who live in Houston.

9. Lowell George. . .
had one of the most amazing minds I've ever encountered.

Which was why it was so tragic to watch him draw those innumerable lines up one nostril, in between his waxing so eloquently across the coffee table from me. . .many years ago.

i was very young. It was shortly before he died.

"when your mind makes a promise that your body can't fill. . ."

10. I saw Little Feat a good while ago and the lead.......
singer for them was Craig Fuller from Pure Praire League of Amie fame.
Great show but I wished I had seen them with Lowel George.
