We had a juke box in the lunch room and I heard the Beatles 'til they came out of my ear drums.....
Since I was a musician, I was fond of Red Roses for a Blue Lady by Bert Kempfert....yeah, I was a nerd......

it's amazing how many songs on this survey are still being played regularly on the oldies stations here in Southern Colorado.

The one thing that strikes me about these old WABC surveys is the variety of musin that was being played on Top 40 Radio back then. In any given week, there would be Motown groups, British and American rockers, country/western acts, and even mainstream performers like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, or Tony Bennett.

7. Number 34 on the WABC Hot List -- number one in your hearts |
|
Martha Reeves is God. John She is alive and well and hosts a karaoke night at some bar in Detroit once a week, last I heard. I'm going to have to follow up on that factoid because I'd REALLY like to shake Martha's hand.

Others on that survey (like #49 - Double-0-Seven by The Detergents)went nowhere.
They DID have a parady hit in 1964 with "Leader of the Laundramat" - hence their name.
