I'll start the ball rolling with that all-time classic:
"Cockpit" - why is the command cabin of a jet/airplane known as a cockpit? The dirty-minded amongst us have a more appropriate application for the word, but let's not go there right now.
"Golf" - name of a sport whose objective is to hit a ball, as few times as possible, into a hole. WHoever came up with this term lacked creativity because "golf" is the reverse of "flog", which is essentially what you do to the ball.

Also, what we Americans call "football" really isn't. After all, the players touch the ball with their hands! What we call "soccer" is truly football. Ask any European.
