I've tried to download and run spybot and adware on my computer, but apparently, the apps I tried only work for windows?
I am a mac user. I did a search for spybot for mac and came up with pc stuff. I'll try again, but in the meantime, does anyone else here know where to get free software to download to get rid of the crap on my computer?
thanks from your local luddite.

1. And I thought Macs were immune to all of this stuff! |

In seriousness though, use google or another search engine and type in "Mac spyware removal" or "Mac spyware" or "Mac trojan" or something similar. As this stuff is universal, every platform should have such a removal program.
The keyword in your case is "Mac" because, being the most popular platform, everything's geared toward Winbloat. (I'm a Linux user myself, though until I gert rid of compuserve I'm stuck using an emulated windows session... :-( )

the only thing I came up with was a norton system which costs money.
I started looking for this after a POP UP told me I had spyware on my computer...but then saw that it would also help with those annoying pop ups, even if I don't have spyware on my computer.
can we sign up for a "do not call" list for spyware???
