Okay, so I just saw Elvis Costello |
|
....so I won these tickets off the radio, right...
was the first caller to correctly answer their quiz question a couple weeks ago. (On the way to work one morning, just half-assed grabbed the cell and dialed the number)
So I won 2 free tickets (great seats) to see Elvis Costello and the Imposters, which was tonight.
I have to admit, that though I've heard the name many times, I had managed to go through my whole life, as a huge fan and student of all kinds of music, without hearing even a sixteenth note of Elvis Cotello's music. Ever.
So I had no idea really what to 'spect.
Come to find out, the dude ROCKS! :headbang:
Extremely talanted and cranked out so pretty good jams.
I had always been a huge fan of the Butthole Surfers for many many years, and I knew, through interviews and stuff, that they were significacntly influenced by Costello. I could totally see that tonight.
I took my girl, we had a great time.
Sweet! :-)
*end transmission*

...the radio-only copy of "Elvis Costello and the Brodsky Quartet Live at New York Town Hall". It's not really typical of his style, but they do a version of the Beach Boys' "God Only Knows" which sends chills up my spine every time.

8. spanish strings -- are you thinking of "(a town called) big nothing"? |
|
it's kind of a parody of a spaghetti western. i don't recall it from the blood & chocolate cd, but elvis keeps re-releasing his cds with different bonus tracks and 2nd cds, so who knows....

.. not sure if this is the name.. but the hook went something about something being easier "back when I was cruel" (I think)
.. and him with his guitar and the keyboard player both had some pretty twisted effects going (modulated delay and stuff)..
And, man oh man, that FAT ASS chunky compression he uses on his guitar during some songs...
great sound... great talent... great band

4. I was dragged on a double blind date once to see Costello. |
|
At the time, I knew of a couple of his songs. I walked out of that show a fan. That was a long time ago. Don't know what happened to my blind date. We all went to a bar after the show, and I met someone else--my blind dates' classmate!!! But, I digress. ELVIS ROCKS!!!

My SO is a big fan. I wish I could take her, but I won't get off work till the show is about over. I'm pretty lukewarm on him myself.
