I take the cost of the materials x 2. i.e., if the fabric costs $7 then charge $14.
but then again it depends entirely upon the product being made and if you put more than 3-4 hours into production. Baby items go for a lot more.

I love to sew and have made my daughters prom/homecoming/formal dresses for years. I especially loved the formal gowns and even made my oldest daughter's wedding dress.
However, a girl I worked with got into a bind when the woman making her (7) bridesmaid's dresses and flower girl dress walked and I reluctantly agreed to help out. After 8 dresses under a horrid time frame (we had 3 weeks to get them all done) I almost quit sewing entirely. I hated it. The same pattern 7 times. Fittings, fittings, and more fittings. It was horrible. No amount of money would have made me enjoy it and I didn't charge the girl a dime (she was my daughter's best friend).
I would never do it again.
