Does anyone know a product to record radio onto a tape?
I know it seems like, "duh, how could such a thing not exist", but I have not seen one my whole life. Got one once, but turns out it records at an odd speed as to only be playable on the same machine. Something that can be set to go on at a certain time would be even better.
(I'm looking for a way to again listen to Morning Sedition in the car in the morning, since the local station moved them back to 4 am, replaced by a local moron - see CO forums)

2. You could just download the shows in mp3 format...
They're delayed, but it's free:

I suppose you could then tape the mp3 off of your computer, but if you get an MP3 player ($30 - http://www.softwareandstuff.com/CES1073.html ) plus an FM link ( $29 - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?type=product&id=1056899518024 ) and you can listen through your car radio!

4. That FM dealie might be just what I need
I'd tried downloading the mp3, and wasn't thrilled with it being a few days behind, but it's better than nothing - I don't have an iPod, but I do have a Palm, which if I get a mem. card for it, should be able to play mp3s. I just didn't want to listen to its pathetic little speaker while I'm in the car, but I had no idea such a product existed as the FM transmitter.

7. They've had a cassette adaptor for years...
If you have a cassette player in your car...

It looks like a cassette with a wire running out the back that plugs into the headphone jack of your portable player (palm in your case).

They're cheaper than the $30 FM deal at $20, but what about the future? Maybe best to go with the FM transmitter, but you should know the options.

I've seen other brands, but this is widely available:

Also, you COULD use "total recorder" ($12 - http://www.highcriteria.com ) to save the show off your computer from a live feed and your delay won't be so long...

6. Did I read you correctly?
What's that again?

Cassette tapes are no longer being made? Is the radio-cassette boombox combo going the way of the 8-track player?

:wow:

8. Clarification: Cassette tapes are no longer being made...
... in the USA. They are still being manufactured and are still readily available.

5. Another option is to use a program like Total Recorder...
(which is the best program EVER)

http://www.highcriteria.com/

to record an online stream to an MP3, then load that baby onto your MP3 player in the morning and listen to it in the car with one of those FM transmitters.

The "professional" version of Total Recorder has a VCR type timer so it'll start and stop when you want it to. Only problem is you'll need to leave your computer on all night with a stream streaming the whole time. If you don't have a broadband connection that could be rough.

I use Total Recorder to record all my "live stream" programs, and I have a Creative Nomad Jukebox Zen to carry it all around, and I even bought a new stereo for my car so I can plug in directly rather than using an FM transmitter.

Anyway good luck! it's fun to be able to control what's on during your commute!
