Oasis announce new album and single details
Edited on Tue Mar-08-05 01:46 PM by LoZoccolo
On May 16th 2005 Oasis return with a brand new single entitled ‘Lyla’. The track is taken from the band’s hugely anticipated new album entitled ‘Don’t Believe The Truth’, which follows two weeks later on May 30th on Big Brother Recordings.

Noel Gallagher believes that ‘Lyla’ is a true Oasis classic. ''It's The Who. ‘Lyla’ was specifically designed for pogoing. We wrote 66 tracks and ‘Lyla’ was one that we revisited late on and it's ended up on the album. I’m happy with every track on the album.”

1. They so crazy.
Haven't they broken up a gazillion times, those crazy Gallagher brothers?

Looking forward to hearing the single. The thing with me and Oasis is that I always end up LOVING the singles so much I have to buy the whole cd....and then think the cd is eh, okay.

11. Blur are afraid to tour the US
Oasis rolls into the US anytime they want. Being excellent fighters, they are not afraid of anything.

OTOH, Blur are wankers who are scared of their own shadow. And you can hear it in their music.

16. OTOH?
What's that mean? I'm still a newby so these abbreviations are a little confusing.

Are you serisous though? I mean, "Oasis rolls into the US anytime they want." Really? When?

I'd be surprised if they were worth 1000 tickets outside of NY, LA and Chicago.

32. MSG show has sold out I believe
and their last tour did pretty well in theatre-size venues (show I was going to was sold out.) They were in a car accident and had to cut the rest of the tour short (ON THE DAY I WAS SUPPOSED TO SEE THEM!)

14. Oasis can only exist by comparing itself to real bands
In truth, Oasis is a tribute band, like Dred Zeppelin or that Kiss tribute band of dwarfs. What their fans consider original music is, in reality, utterly horrible attempts at covers of Who and Beatles hits.

17. IMHO...
I think Wonderwall is a pretty damn good tune. And despite the fact that the title is borrowed from a George Harrison song (or album?) I think the song bears little resemblence to either band.

30. Wonderwall Music
was a film that George Harrison did the soundtrack for. The owner of the record store I work for has it in the back with his Beatles stuff but I have never put it on. I'm afraid it might lessen my view of George's musical genius somewhat (and crappy mid-70s bootlegs and albums have already done enough of that.)

19. What classic rock band ever put out tunes with names like "Lyla"?
That's originality. I've never heard the name "Lyla" in that way I don't think. I don't think their music is derivative.

21. Lyla
Edited on Tue Mar-08-05 03:51 PM by democracyindanger
is actually a combination of the Kinks' "Lola" and Eric Clapton's "Layla." Liam wanted to cover "Layla" because he had been working really hard on the opening guitar lick, and pretty much has it down now. But Whatshisface finally mastered the fingering of the open C chord, and thinks the lyrics to "Lola" are "brilliant" and "smashingly funny." After not talking to each other for a week because of this issue, each went into the studio seperately, recording the song they wanted to. The engineer slapped Liam's "Layla" on the left track, and Theotherone's "Lola" on the right, scribbled "Lyla" on the DAT label and went to the pub for a pint and a pickled egg.

The ensuing gaseous emission from the engineer's buttocks due to the egg/Guiness combination was the most musical thing he worked on that day.

23. The collective music world shrugs
Hold on a sec...."The track is taken from the band’s hugely anticipated new album"????

New Oasis albums are about as "anticipated" as herpes outbreaks. Oasis is about three months from being chased by that Indian guy from VH-1 for a "Bands Reunited" episode.

29. That's not anticipation, that's insanity
One person posting endless threads in a sad attempt to prop up a band that lost any relevance about 8 years ago does not equal "anticipation" as normal music fans understand the term.

25. Uhm
Their last album came out in 2002. Said album was in the Top 10 selling albums of the year.

Wether you like it or not a band that sells that many records is going to have fans wanting another album.

28. Sweeeeeeet
Really looking forward to it. Heathen Chemistry was pretty damn strong and all the live stuff I've heard from the past two years was very good (Zack Starky is a fucking beast on drums.)

To all the haters: I doubt many of you have heard much more than Wonderwall and since it's hip to diss Oasis you have to jump on the fucking bandwagon. Good lord is that pathetic. I used to be apathetic about them until I saw them live with the Black Crowes and was blown the fuck away. They write GREAT straight-up 4 chord rock songs. No pretentious bullshit about the quadratic formula or how much life sucks or any other crap that goes with it. Just songs that you can get plastered to and scream at the top of your lungs with.
