All pledges of SOOTL - Your initiation starts NOW
Write an original poem and post it here.

I'll give you one myself, just to show you that I am not COMPLETELY cruel.

In the crevice of a rock
lay a trodden rose.
That has been picked, admired then forgotten.

I think it could be divisive.

28. How about a poem I wrote when I was fourteen...
I gazed into the valley low
and wondered how it feels to go
where birds sing gaily in the trees,
the feeling I will never know.

Oh how I long to feel the ease
of the cool but gentle breeze,
instead I try to ponder out
the answer to these mysteries.

I often feel I live in drought
because I have to live without
what other people have; but doubt,
My thirst shall ever be quenched out.

sixteen
that little somebody
who used to be
only mine

only mine
now he's up on stage
in the spotlight
belonging to all who applaud
no longer only mine

34. It's pretty good but
I'm not sure if it a haiku. According to this website http://www.toyomasu.com/haiku/
a haiku needs to follow a 5/7/5 format i.e. 5 syllables, 7 syllables, 5 syllables. I know I'm being picky
 :hi:

Edited on Tue Mar-08-05 07:42 PM by da_chimperor
Sometime my syllable judgement is off.

Edit: I looked at it again and I came up with it being 5/6/5. Did you get the same thing? I re-did it based on that.

There's a flower growing here,
It grows and grows
Yet does not bloom,
And won't 'til sunshine fills my world
And love this hole
Inside me.

36. does it need to be new? This is about 20 years old
Worker's Unite

nobody really wants to work
the pay's not enough and the boss is a jerk
but work we must in order to live
for few on this earth are willing to give
but some must farm to grow our food
and some must sew lest we live in the nude
and some must build lest we freeze in the cold
and someone must care for the sick and the old

some work is done for human needs
other is done for insatiable greeds
so everyone must find some work
and try to enjoy it - like Captain Kirk
'cause when we get home from another hard day
we haven't the energy to go out and play
and we must compete and study in school
or be a common laborer - a pitiful fool

and that is not all for we must goto college
for we won't be hired without requisite knowledge
then off to work up the ladder we climb
scrapping and clawing for every dime
we make lots of money but barely get by
as soon as we get it we kiss it good-bye
so we must have another promotion
to pay for our car and also hand lotion

and we must get a raise every year
to match our inflation or cause it i fear
our house payment's large and so are our taxes
and our world spins on a monetary axis
most of us wouldn't have it any other way
to our gods of money we kneel down and pray
for not only must we pay for our toys
we must pay for college for our girls and boys

39. Ooh, ooh, me too! :)
From sometime in high school...

Untitled #1

Help I'm
Get me out of here
and
can't do this but
yet never
give in
give up
try too hard
not hard enough
three quarters close
and one half wrong
everything is shambled
and I feel like I'm giving up the fight
too soon
I must be stronger
than this or else how
I got this far
is impossible
never win
never perfect but
confused and
making faces for people
to imagine
I am strong
I am fine
I don't need you
but please
help me.

Untitled #2

I'm on stage in front of everyone's expectations,
Playing the girl they want to see.
She's confident, she has her life together,
She knows what she wants and how to get it.
(I'm not her, I'm her inner shadow.)
Sometimes I feel a little of the light,
I know what that confidence is, what it feels like.
Usually I play it, spend half my life inside
of the character that's supposed to be me.
How do you live up to yourself? I'm in the
audience too, waiting to see what I'll do.
If you all stopped watching me,
Who would I be?

I had a lot more talent then than I do now, I think...

43. Would you consider a satirical song that I just wrote original? It rhymes.
I'm a fundamentalist, O.K.
I sleep all night and I judge all day.

(Chorus)
He's a fundamentalist, O.K.
He sleeps all night
And he hates all day.

I print out tracts, I hand them out,
Even in the lavatory.
On Wednesdays I write letters
'Bout how everyone's wrong but me.

He prints out tracts and hands them out
Even in the lavatory.
On Wednesdays he writes letters
'Bout thee and thee and thee.

I'm a fundamentalist, O.K.
I sleep all night and I judge all day.

He's a fundamentalist, O.K.
He sleeps all night
And he hates all day.

I make websites that judge all those
Who don't agree with my views.
All of you are hellbound, who
Aren't in my church's pews.

He makes websites that judge all those
Who don't agree with his views.
All of you are hellbound, who
Aren't in his church's pews.

I'm a fundamentalist, O.K.
I sleep all night and I judge all day.

He's a fundamentalist, O.K.
He sleeps all night
And he hates all day.

Well, you might think that you're righteous
And have morality.
Well, you should know that Jesus
Only listens to me.

Well, you might think you're righteous
And pray and sing a hymn.
Well, you should know that Jesus
Only listens to him.

I'm a fundamentalist, O.K.
I sleep all night and I judge all day.

He's a fundamentalist, O.K.
He sleeps all night
And he hates all day.
