I am considering adding Showtime, and was looking for DUers' opinions... |
|
Edited on Tue Mar-08-05 06:51 PM by Maddy McCall
on Kirstie Alley's new series on Showtime, Fat Actress. I'm thinking about trading off my Starz for Showtime, and, since I LOVE Kirstie Alley, doing so makes the switch to Starz that much more appealing.
She was interviewed on one of those tabloid shows a couple of weeks ago, and they showed some clips from the show. It looked really cute. Only Kirstie could carry off a show like this. I think she's a hoot, and she's beautiful no matter what size she is.
I am reposting this with the mods' consent. I am requesting that anyone who seeks to start a flamewar on this thread to please start their own thread for that purpose.
Thanks! :hi:

3. My cable package includes Showtime and Starz |
|
but if I had to pick one, I'd go with Showtime, for "Penn and Teller's Bullshit" alone.

4. I have always liked her. |
|
but we don't have Showtime. I had heard that the show was pretty funny, though from some friends who watched it.
She has great comedic timing, IMO.

5. I've given up on all of the "premium" chanels. The movies that |
|
are the worst show up first and the better movies only show up after they are on dvd. They play the same 5 or 6 movies over and over again all month. But then I watch Nat. Geo, Science, and animal planet. The only thing other than that is Comedy cnetral. Damn I'm boring.

14. I don't subscribe for the movies... |
|
I subscribe for the series. Six Feet Under, Carnivale, Deadwood, and the list goes on. HBO also produces some excellent documentaries.
And I love Animal Planet, too. When my son is in the living room, that's what we watch.

15. I don't have the "premium" channels either. |

We have Total Choice Plus on DirecTV, including local channels. The only extra package we pay for is NFL Direct Ticket. Sometimes we buy a movie on PPV.

6. Starz vs. Showtime? No Contest! |
|
I already get the Encore channels as part of my basic programming (which I rarely watch), but there's no way I would pay extra to get the Starz channels. One of them, Starz Theatre, shows the same four crappy movies for a week. On the rare instances I get a free preview, it seems like they're showing the same movies on the regular Starz channel. The Showtime package is a much better choice, IMO.

Heh Heh!!
We have Starz and Encore. Hubby wants to get Showtime...told him in order to afford it we'd have to get rid of Golf Channel...He's pouting.

Which does the trick...we got some super sports channel package that Golf Channel came with and then they took Golf Channel out so we had to buy it by itself (or hubby would be crying under the covers for hours!!)
Now he wants Showtime...Maybe if we quit feeding the dogs I can afford to feed his tv addiction!!
(Where have you been? I've missed you but awful!!)

Had to run earlier this evening. I've been busy with a project, and it's taking a lot of my time. I do recommend switching to Dish Network, though - if for no other reason than to deny Rupert Murdoch any more money. He gets it anyway from anyone with cable or dish from Fox News; you can't get programming without it.
If you get Dish Network, they'll install it for free, give credit for your first month's programming, and give you a free TiVo.

9. I had showtime for quite awhile, now we have hbo. |
|
i saw fat actress on show (they are having a free week to get folks to add) and liked it. She's awesome. I agree with a past poster who described it as a big "Fuck You! to Hollywood". (sorry - don't remember who that was)
I may get showtime again, it's pretty great. I missed seeing Queer as Folk the last two years, and there are more 'edgy' shows compared to hbo. we can't get rid of hbo, since sopranos will be coming back soon, and bill maher is always interesting.
never had starz, although it seems they have a lot of pretty good movies available. I have netflix, so that's not too much of a draw for me.
IMO-switch!

16. Your logic sounds like mine. I couldn't get rid of HBO... |
|
so it looks like Starz is going to go so that I can subscribe to Showtime.
I've got Netflix, too, and I LOVE IT.

11. I like their original programming |
|
But from what I've seen of their movie choices, I'm not impressed. I have HBO currently due to Carnivale (and Six Feet Under is due to start next month), but honestly, the only channels I really watch are IFC and Sundance.
I used to watch Trio all the time, it was my default station; but the evil DirectTV people decided to discontinue the channel and now I am left alone and bereft!

13. Haven't seen Kirstie's new show but Showtime sucks big time..... |
|
We had it installed just because of Queer as Folk and, since its in its final season, we're dropping it in a few months. I RARELY see anything else there worth watching.

21. I would save the money |
|
and not bother with either Showtime or Starz. My parents get Starz now (I think it's a free offer or something) and while they have some good movies once in a while, they mostly play the same crap over and over (the programming seems to have got worse recently).
I haven't been all that impressed with Showtime (with the small experience I've had but that was a while back). I didn't care for many of the films they played. Though, I suppose if you like Kirstie Alley that much, it may be worth it...though who knows so many shows end up on DVD anyways.
I like HBO though, that too not for the films, but the series (I love Curb your enthusiasm - I don't have HBO any more, kinda miss that show)...I also have begun liking the independant film channels - Sundance and IFC. Both have some interesting documentaries once in a while (Sundance played Bush's Brain, Uncovered, and Bowling for Columbine) .
