"Super Size Me" sounds like a really stupid movie |
|
Some guy eats all his meals at McDonalds for a month and, as a result, gets fat. Well no shit. Knock me down with a feather.

As a direct result of that diet.

7. I'm sure the quart of Wild Turkey every day didn't help |

McDonalds food is not healthy?? Say it ain't so. Thank goodness for the movie's compelling warning.

3. It's not simply that he gets fat |
|
It's the extent of the damage that really takes you aback.
There's a great deal of other material in there, too. Not really a feature-film's worth, more like a one-hour special's worth, but still good stuff.
I'd like to see it screened to every junior-high and high-school student in the country.

There's more to it than that. Much more. The fact is that it's very easy to SAY we know the effects of their food but it's another to see it laid out bare before us. It's as much about the corporate culture as it is about McDonalds themselves.

I'm not partial to movie reviews by people who haven't seen the movie, but for the record, McDonald's CLASSIFIES it's customers according to their usage.
The guy did a CONTROLLED experiment eating only MCDonald's for one month. Based on that diet, he developed symptoms. Many young males do only eat fast foods. Fast foods are on more and more public school campuses.
If the movie had no merit, then why did McDonald's discontinue supersizing?
I say watch the movie THEN form an opinion.

9. Kind of reminds me of "Titanic" |
|
Not really a surprise outcome. But it seems that many people liked it, so I could well be wrong. I'll catch it on cable.

10. It had a certain amount of humor, too, though |
|
I thought it was okay: Michael Moore Lite.
But for real info on bad nutrition, Fast Food Nation is much better.

on a free preview of showtime.
What a propaganda piece. The guy goes from a uber-healthy lifestyle to 5000 calories a day while dropping his activity level and gains wait.
No, he wasn't dying of liver failure. He had some changes in blood levels - that may have been "high" but were still within normal range.
The Doctor was definately playing it up, as well as he was with his new ailments.
I'm not saying that fast food is good for you, I'm just saying that this movie was as fair and balanced as fox news.
IMO, the only good thing in that movie was exposing the kind of lunches our kids are getting at school, and the fact that they can be fed a healthy diet for the same money.
The fact that McD got rid of the supersize portion really irks me. Do you think they did it because of image? No, it was profits. My wife and I always shared the frys and coke, as do must of us poor slobs out in jesusland.
I'm sick of no one taking personal responsibility for their actions. The movies unspoken undertone was that the evil corporations were conditioning us to eat this way. In fact, the corporations respond to the desires of the public. If no one wanted to eat big macs they wouldn't exist. I don't need a nanny state to control what I eat.

13. They should package this.. |
|
in a pack with the book "Fast Food Nation". Between the two, I try to eat as little fast food as possible. (Except In-n-Out & Tommy's.. because a girl's gotta eat.)
I was most interested in the school PE and lunch programs. It's criminal the tripe they're feeding kids (and I remember the same stuff from when I was a kid not that long ago.)
