1. Depends on how you look at it |
|
I enjoy it, but that's because I look at Enterprise on its own merits. I can understand how some Trekkies would be dissapointed in the continuity errors, though.

3. It lost me right away: Decontaminant gel |
|
In the pilot, two of our intrepid heroes (boy and girl) have to decontaminate, so they rub gel all over each other. Why is this wrong, wrong, wrong? A) Bad science - if you want to really decontaminate, you shower. Bad science equals bad science fiction. B) Not sexy - Two people cleaning each other off in a shower is way hotter than rubbing gel all over each other (OK, that may just be me, but...) After about 5 episodes, I still had not seen good, fun sci-fi concepts or anything that made me care about the characters, so I stopped watching and have not been back since. Maybe I should give it another chance, but I may be too old and bitter to enjoy it.

That scene alone made me realize that Enterprise was being made by committee; or at least by two producers who wouldn't know Trek if it landed on them. Worse is that they've continued to use sex at as selling point for the show as opposed to good writing.
And it's not about being prudish; the above scene made NO sense. There's that far in the future and the technology the use to decontaminate crew members involves rubbing a gel on half naked fellow crew members?! They're in a starship traveling through space and that's the best technology could come up with. How bout a dunking, or a shower? (as you mention) Forget that a military organization would not allow such a procedure to occur between members of the opposite sex. Who rubs then gel on the naughty bits?
Which brings me to the recent scene where we actually got to see the crack of a Vulcan's ass. Now I can say I lived to see the day. This massage she gives to Trip while being half naked also makes no sense. Even if Vulcans have no hang-ups about nudity; you think she's know better to put herself in that position in front of a human male. Sorry but when I want to see great Trek I dig out my DVD copy of seasons 1-5 of DS9.

Lets all look at the Vulcan in the skin tight ship suit. Never mind that Vulcans are interested in sex once every seven years. Never mind that skin tight uniforms are impractical and uncomfortable.
Seven of Nine was bad enough a blatant addition to draw young teenage males, but at least they wrote the character to be mostly clueless and cold about sexuality. The classic disinterested proposition of Harry Kim set it up to work. They didn't even try to give a bad explanation for it on Enterprise.
The writing is awful. The premise is bad. The long term series plot is dreadful. Most of the mistakes made in the Star Trek universe happen when they try to write themselves out of a corner using time travel. This time, the whole freaking plot involves it. Blech!

8. The show is even more stupid then Voyager |
|
Edited on Mon Oct-13-03 08:00 AM by Kamika
1. The characters have no personality, you dont feel for them as you did for Sisko, kira, riker, odo, data etc
2. theres a token black guy there, make him say stuff once in awhile
3. The show is too "american" i know it sounds weird but its like they cant get viewers anylonger so instead of doing it more like TNG they are doing it more like some "action in space for the average Joe(tm)"
4. The episodes are boring, they are stupid and they REALLY need a story arch. Enterprise seems hellbent on having a alien of the week and then reset everything in the net show. I didnt think it was possible but these episodes are even more stupid then Voyager and voyager SUCKED!!!!
5. KILL the Doctor, please GOD KILL him, and do it PAINFUL i HATE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!
6. Make more DS9 EPISODES!!!
love, a trekkie
