When I was young, it seemed that life was so wonderful...

a miracle, oh it was beautiful, magical.
And all the birds in the trees, well they'd be singing so happily,
joyfully, playfully watching me.
But then they send me away to teach me how to be sensible,
logical, responsible, practical.
And they showed me a world where I could be so dependable,
clinical, intellectual, cynical.

There are times when all the world's asleep,
The questions run too deep for such a simple man
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
I know it sounds absurd but please tell me who I am

Now watch what you say or they'll be calling you a radical,
liberal, fanatical, criminal.
Won't you sign up your name, we'd like to feel you're
acceptable, respectable, presentable, a vegetable!

At night, when all the world's asleep,
The questions run so deep for such a simple man
Won't you please, please tell me what we've learned
I know it sounds absurd but please tell me who I am

Supertramp

2. Their traditional opening act throughout the '70's was Chris De Burgh.
I understand he's done very well for himself. ;-) B-)

8. What planet are you on?
"The Lady In Red"? "The Simple Truth"? "Don't Pay The Ferryman"?

Any of these sound familiar?

9. Nope, none of 'em are familiar
Perhaps if I heard them I would recognize them.

10. Well, over here in the States, he's better known for his safe, bland
MOR adult-oriented stuff. Even that rarely gets played anymore. Except for "The Lady In Red", which will still be in heavy playlist rotation when the sun itself burns to a cinder.

His earlier rockin' stuff is great, but if you never become a fan, well, Vive La Difference.

4. I heard that on the radio last night.
One of the stations here is a 70's station.

12. Good song, reminds me of one of my favorites
When I was baby I looked like a pig
My nose was a snout and my ears were too big
My mother would poke at the hole
At the back of my head where my brain was exposed
I didn't know it then but never again
Would recapture those wonderful days

When I was a baby I fell down a well
I landed deep down in the furnace of hell
The devil would rock me to sleep
With stories of cities of ivory and gold
It took a long long time before I could
Escape from that terrible hole

When I was a baby I lived in a crib
I crawled on floors and ate with a bib
But then I was taken away
And was sold to the circus for trinkets and beads
Now I lie awake at night and dream about
What I would do if I was ever set free
