1. Diverse, certainly!
But a lot of fun songs in that list. Will I be flogged for admitting that I always liked New York Groove?

2. Oh, god...Dickie Goodman.
I was subjected to that guy ad nauseum in grade six. I think I was the only 11 year old who didn't find him even remotely funny.

I wonder if he licensed all those samplse...

6. Dickie Goodman NEVER licensed a sample.
As Casey Kasem put it, "He just lets the lawsuits come rolling in!"

3. That's an erudite mix. I booked the Amazing Rhythm Aces when I was >
"Student Activities Director" at college.

What was amazing about the Amazings was the gall that one Top 20 hit imparts. Their contract and rider was just flippin' outrageous (what they had to have in their dressing room; 3 Super Trooper spots, etc) and they acted like total jerks when I delivered their check, pre-performance, as specified.

Amazing Rhythm Asses.

11. when was the last time I listened to a radio?
2003? Maybe because there is no such thing as a 1970's station just all these tanj "mixes" - the best of the 70s, 80s, 90s, and today. Sure what a mix - like a pinch of flour and six cups of salt (too much 'today' in the mix).

7. Maybe you can answer this for me -- I swear Moon Martin
did a version of Mercury Blues -- do you know of any such rendition. I can never find it. Also, do you know of any compilations that contain "Mindbender" by Stillwater? I can't find that song anywhere, although RTNRadio just played it for me, I missed it, but they played it.

20. Now that I'm out of work, I have to cut some corners.
One of the corners I cut was the $35 a month I was paying Live 365 to host Soul Express Radio. I hope to put my station back on the air at some point; I just don't know yet when that'll happen.

In the meantime, though, you can still listen to THE SOUL EXPRESS on WHUS Radio. It broadcasts on Saturday evenings from 9:00-miodnight EST. You may access the audio stream here:

http://whus.org/listen.htm

And thanks for asking! :hi:

it would mean that I only can listen to it between 3am and 6am German time. I think I rather sleep then :)

I hope you can put your other station on Life365 on air soon again.

How is the web master job getting along?

...from the 60s and 70s on vinyl from the original release. They're in pristine condition. Can you imagine being at their house for the weekend listening to that stuff? They were hippies, and cool as hell. Thanks for making me think of great memories!

26. IMHO, a lot of those songs are best forgotten.
Not all, but a lot. Some have apparently already been forgotten--by me.

But man, "Black Betty" -- I love that song. What year was that out? It's one of those songs that it seems like I've always known, but I honestly can't remember listening to it on the radio so I'm not sure how I know it. Maybe the year can help me place it.

33. Awesome list Night Train
You know, with my love of Seventies Top 40, this stuff is right up my alley! I have about three-fourths of these on 45 RPMs; many of them are very difficult to track down, despite being sizeable hits back in the '70's.

Having not been alive in the seventies, I've never heard a sizeable majority of these on the radio. Most oldies stations are so lacking in diversity. Sounds like a great show; I'm glad you're out there giving this music exposure.

in 1971 someone guess who wrote the song. Hint.. he went on to write and perform the final #1 song of the 1970's.

37. Rupert Holmes
The man behind "The Pina Colada Song"!

"Timothy" is an awesomely creepy song. Their other hit "Give up Your Guns" is a cool story song as well (about a guy who robs a bank and as the police arrive at his door is having to choose between killing himself or being executed later), and the album that those two are from is quite good- has one of my favorite songs of all time- "Tell Me Heaven Is Here."

43. Your right!! I couldn't believe it either until I looked on the record
several years ago that belonged to my older sister. To bad it got banned within a few weeks after it was released being that it was about cannibalism. I agree it would have gone up higher in the charts if it wasn't pulled from the radio because of its subject content. Maybe somebody ought to redo the song now that times are a little more liberal than they were in 1971.

39. Ahh, that wonderful pop song about cannibalism!
Imagine how much higher it would've gotten on the charts if Top 40 radio hadn't become squeamish and decided to yank it from the airwaves!

As for the writer, it was Rupert Holmes of "Pina Colada" fame. :eyes:
