Has anyone been to the WW2 memorial?
thinking of taking my Father in-law. He is a WW2 vet. Would it be worth the trip?

1. We only saw it while it was being built in 2002. I think your father
would appreciate it. :hi:

2. I want to see it when I'm in DC this summer.
I also have an almost 89 year old grandpa who had to be discharged just after Pearl Harbor for ulcers, but lost a lot of friends in the war. He'd love to see that.

3. Have you been to the website?
We registered my grandfather on it not too long ago. Looking around there might help you decide if you want to go or not (I would go, but not everyone likes it).

5. I've been to it.
I think it's a little overdone, but it's a beautiful monument and it will probably invoke a lot of memories for your father in law. Check out the website, I'm not sure of the link.

7. Indredibly beautiful!
My family saw it last fall on a trip to DC. Not much pro-military, I thought it was most impressive. From the four corners there are archways where large bronze eagles are suspended over entrances to the center. Around the perimeter, all 50 states are represented in majestic columns that ring a heart that includes pools and fountains, gold stars representing those that gave their lives. There are inscribed in stone quotes by people that understand the cost of war, the price that sometimes must be paid. One has to search them out, but they offer a reasoning for sacrifice that is so much lacking in our current conflict.

While you are there, you can touch the names of some of those that lost their lives in another senseless war, Vietnam. Its memorial wall is just across the reflecting pool and over a bit. As at the Vietnam Memorial, visitors to the newest monument in Washington leave mementos and remembrances for those that gave all in WWII.

I thank them too.
