2. I've been thinking a tractor would be quite nice. |
|
I don't see a redneck on my shopping list, though.

Grandpa had one with iron wheels. I don't remember what brand it was. Would you know? It also had a large wheel on the side which he put a large belt to run a machine which I think may have chopped up corn.

8. Do you remember what color it was? |
|
The big tractor companies typically had a distinctive color for their equipment years ago.
For instance...
Case was red. (I think) John Deere was green and yellow. Caterpillar was yellow. Ford was grey and blue.
I remember an orange one... But, I don't recall the company for that one.

11. I don't really remember a color. |
|
It was old in the 60s and had iron "tires", not the usual rubber. It wasn't steam. He had two other newer tractors. This one had, in a child's eyes, a rather large wheel which with a wide belt ran a loud machine which processed grain. I think I remember corn in particular.

15. Most tractors had metal wheels... |
|
Until sometime after WWII. It was expensive to make large rubber tires.
The belt driven thresher was probably pretty early. '20s or '30s. Later they were replaced with a mechanical linkage due to the fact the belts were dangerous and difficult to use.
